Salutations,

As I have mentioned before, I am currently working on a suit of ODST armor, and I am looking for advice on making a specific component of it. In particular, I would like to make the collar area of the undersuit. You may notice that there is a circular apature in the torso armor that forms a collar around the neck, which in some pictures rises high around the back side of the helmet. The straps for the chest piece are suspended over this greater collar section.

I have seen some people construct or modify tactical vests that contain a similar collar section to this, and I was hoping that someone else already having "invented the wheel" could give me some advice or point me in a good direction to construct one of my own.

And please forgive me if I seem kurt today. I was almost done assembling the Pepakura helmet only to discover that two pages of it are missing and I have no saved file from which to reprint the custom scaling I did.

Sorry for the double-post, but it has been a few hours and at least twenty views, and I have come up with something else to add since the original post, so I felt that a second post was justified.

In any case, I am considering getting an ST31B Tactical Vest with soft-collar:

That looks pretty good, but I feel like it could be further enhanced. I would like to find a way to close up the collar on the vest so it looks completely circular, and to emphasize the collar by enlarging it. What would be especially nice is if I could actually add to it so it has a higher crest around the back side of the helmet to protect the neck (and to conceal the rather noticable seam in my neck-covering balaklava which could spoil the illusion.) Does anyone have any experience working with nylon or similar materials who has advice on this?

Incidentally, some of the other areas of the undersuit, such as the "bracer" armor part of the armor I wanted to do without additional plating, but wanted to give a rigid appearance to. I am thinking of taking some thick leather we have lying around the shop, and sewing that onto the undersuit, above the shirtsleave but below the cammo pattern, making it seem to be a kevlar-like material over a plate, while still maintaining the flexibility I need to put my arms through. Has anyone tried that before?

I had an idea for collar padding, but I cant remember the name of the product! Those things that you slide on the bottom of a door to stop air from blowing under it...looks like 2 cushions with about an inch of space between them...just get a black one of those and put it around the collar.
