Ok! Heres my odst helmet (WIP to come soon). But today have a couple question about how to make the details on the helmet.

And ugh my internet froze right when i finished typing this so i had to redo it. so sorry if this sounds...grumpy ha

Here we go! How do you make the cuts in the top of the helmet? I know some people have covered the top in bondo and then cut down, but i thought this method would prove difficult and would make the top part have a lot of thick bondo on it.

An Idea I came up with is putting foam stickies where you want the cuts to be and then putting bondo/rondo (let me know which you think would work better) on the parts all around it. Once dry i would peel off the stickies and (in theory) there would be a gap where they were creating the cuts. Do you guys think this would work? OR would the foam absorb the bondo. Even if it did though i would have some easy to follow guidelines to cut the foam away though.

I tried putting the foamies on the helmet like this and here's some pictures as to how it turned out. Do you guys think these foamies are in the right place? Considering scale, spacing and thickness? Like does it seem accurate as to where the cuts should go?

sorry for just a bunch of links... I tried like a bajillion times to get pictures to work but no luck...

Another idea that my mom thought of (haha) is to do the exact opposite! You put the foamies where the cuts AREN'T! this would create a raised area that would have gaps in between. so basically the whole top of the helmet would be covered except for the small gaps. (sorry i don't have pictures for this one but i hope you know what i mean. If not let me know and i'll do a very crappy microsoft paint drawing of it.)

So please let me know if you think my ideas would work (and which one) and also any other methods that you have used or have seen been used by others, along with how to do it! :)

Man that was a lot of questions lol

Thanks a million! :)

Your idea is sound. A few other members there have used foamies like you're describing. Also the positioning of the lines seem to be pretty good. The one only thing I can think of that you might want to consider is that the lines you will create will be fairly wide. But I guess that come down to personal preference.

Oh and you might want to try using a service like photobucket to host your pics. Its free and super easy to post and display on here.

Oh and one more thing. Did you fully fiberglass your helmet or did you just resin it? Because if you only resined and not fiberglassed it will be to weak to support the weight of bondo.

OK awesome! thanks for replying! I'lll take your advice and make the lines a bit thinner (or just fill em in somehow once i'm done). So, the forums don't work with 4 shared right? I"ll try photo bucket and see how that works out! thanks a ton!

And yes i "rondo glassed" it so it's pretty strong!

Question: Which method that i mentioned do you think would yield the best results? The one where you put the foam where you want the cuts? Or where you DON'T want the cuts?

Thanks! :)
