Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone had any concepts or ideas how i could make the shoulder strapping for my ODST armor build that I'm starting with.

I am really confused about the shoulder straps, what is their function? Where are they supposed to be conneted? Do they actually have any other function then to "Look nice"?

It would be nice to get comments from people who have made these before and how they used them for their armor.

Here are a couple reference pictures so you know what I'm talking about.

I was pondering around on how to make these parts... And if they had a crucial part on actually strapping the Armor together. If anyone had some lying around I could buy the shoulder straps as I'm not superb on making "Soft/underarmor" myself.

Other then that, i thought that a "tactical vest" under my ODST pieces could help to keep the Armor pieces together.

Should i get something like this under my armor?

Thank you guys for all your help and please no comments on "Pics or didnt happen" I'm starting this project and I want to solve all the issues before i just fly into doing something i might not be so good in.

Thanks again fellow members :)

What I am doing is making the back plate and Chest plate, then making the shoulder straps out of foam and covering them with coth. After that I plan to hot glue the straps to the back plate and chest. For the other pieces I am going to connect them all togather with Fiber Glass or Duck tape.

Well, with the shoulder straps and all, it could prove to be either for looks, or actual functionality. It all depends on how you're making your armor. With mine, I'm just going for the multi-piece armor, and I'm going to be using straps and the such. It's kind of like the straps on a backpack. They're there to help distribute the weight, not to mention keep it on your back, and to look nice. Now, before I go on about backpacks, I would take the straps of a backpack, or make some of your own with foam, cloth, and lots of duct tape. Trust me, it helps. If you look at the first ODST pic that you have up there, you can tell which parts are the actual armor, but then it looks to me like he's got some sort bomb-disposal or Kevlar(c) vest underneath, because not all of that is armor like the SPARTANS. So, in conclusion, the straps are likely just a way of keeping the armor up, and to prevent it from falling off. Also, which would you want to wear, a big bulky piece of fiberglass and plastic and metal, or big bulky pieces of fiberglass and plastic and metal being kept together with some comfortable backpack straps? I don't know how well I explained that, but if you need anymore advice, just ask, I'll be watching your topic.

Having not got to the strapping yet I can't really add anything, I've got plans but have to try them first. You could probably attach them with some sections of nylon webbing and screws or glue... it's also dependent on how accurate you want it to be.

What I would suggest though is to build at least one shoulder and possibly the torso to experiment with, I've found it's much easier to figure out some of these kinds of problems with a physical piece in front of you. Even if they're just cardboard, it should make things a little easier :)

Thanks for all the input guys! It will really help me brainstorm on this.

I'm still of course open to any new replies.
