Welcome to the Pep Scaling thread revisited.

The purpose for this revisit is to hopefully clear up some of the mystery some members are experiencing when building there armor. There seems to be a common problem for members not understanding the formula provided for some peps. So I have done about two weeks worth of work on the boots to come up with the following information without using the supplied formula.

Please note my method has not been completely verified but from the several sets of boots I have made I feel that the numbers are very close to what you need. As always corrections are welcome and looked into to make this as accurate as possible.

First thing we will cover is the Boots:

The interesting thing about the boots is the split design that allows for more freedom when kneeling down. The gap provides the much needed flex to accomplish this position. Also adding that there is a three piece boot design this allows for easier access when inserting a pair of normal shoes or boots to wear on the inside of the armor.

The Pep file I will be using is the Robogenisis model Link

You can use either version, the 2 or 3 piece and achieve the same results for scaling.

First step is to measure your foot as follows:

once you have your measurement in CM use the following scale to determine your Pepakura scale factor.

Once you have determined your Spartan scale plug it into Pep Designer.

I have successfully done this for two different size shoes so the math behind it should be solid but there could be errors so if you use this method please let me know if there is any issues.

can you put me up to date on your boots ??

Thanks...

I have several pair laying around at the moment in different states of completion..

I will post a thread when I have gotten a little further..

I agree well done. It would be great if we were able to design a thread where people post nithing but the amor class and their size and what scaling they used. That way me for example can see Mark VI with someone 170lbs and 70 inches. That would get me real close. Anyway sorry I'm going off topic, Great work.

I have seen many attempts at this but they all seem to fail for some reason... This is why I decided to work out this problem in more detail...

/should the scaleing be based around the size of the shoes or your feet.

Some what...

The problem I found with the boot was when trying to scale to the size of a foot or shoe it would end up being to narrow in certain places.

So I built a couple of mock ups so I could figure out a good scaling method based on your shoe size. Like I stated the measurements should be solid but until a few fellow Spartans build there shoes I will not no for sure.

However it is working for me so far..

Yea there locate up north and was hit with a big storm that delayed the shipment... I figure it will be here tomorrow so I can get back cracking on my helmet.

Anyway anyone new out there starting a project please let me know if this worked out for you. Basically if you use the scale factors I have come up with there should be a centimeter on either side of your foot on the front cup. Plus I am looking for any problems with the clown shoe look on any scale...

This is a really great help. I was kind of dreading digging up the old scaling info somewhere. Can't wait to see more pieces in the future. Good luck with the styrene helmet by the way!

why did you stop at 14 on us sizes i wear 14 1/2 -15s :(

It not that I don't like anyone with that shoe size however the initial chart I found didn't have that size on it. Please measure your foot as describe and provide me that measurement and let me know what shoe size it is. 14.5 or 15.

I will plug it into the W.O.P.E.R computer and provide you the magic number.

could you do a version of this for the MRK V from the wikipage plz

At this moment I am working on sizes of armor that I am working on. Please be aware to do this I have to build several models to derive the base line to work from.

If you wish to make several models fitting the different shoe sizes and provide me your findings I will adopt my scaling method and add that to the reference material.

Thanks... I feel your pain because the scaling sticky is out of date in my opinion. It provides some great insight but neglected a lot of the models out there. So when someone posts how to scale something there referred to the sticky but what there looking for it not there.

Also I'm not building my helm completely out of styrene, I am using it for details. Just wanted to make sure that was clear or I may end up with a lot of questions on how im doing that..
