Ok so I got to see Quarantine last night. Scary stuff. It's been a long time since I actually turned my eyes slightly away from the screen from anticipation of the surprise scare. Although the basic plot is old it was shot very well and the actors were great. It actually felt like they just locked a bunch of people in a building and didn't tell them what was going to happen to them.
Anyway, I'd like to see if others who might have seen the movie thought the same things.
Spoilers from here on out!
The beginning of the movie you see a news film crew reporter getting to know the fire fighters her and her partner would be shadowing on the night shift. There's some humanizing of the characters so that you get to care about them as usual.
They get a call to this building where residents heard this elderly woman screaming. They go up stairs to the womans apartment. She's unresponsive, but seems like she's bleeding. One of the two police officers approaches her and she attacks him, taking a bite out of his neck. This is where it all starts getting crazy. As they try to let the realize the doors are locked and police and what seems like a SWAT team has barricaded them inside without telling them why.
Now there's a lot more to the movie, but basically I think from seeing the clippings of "Doomsday" and "Failed Cults" in the attic that the guy was experimenting on creating a mutated rabies virus to start killing everyone off. From the cages, you can expect he was experimenting on rats.
This is how the disease got out I think.
A rat bit the guy in the attic. He got all the symptoms, but couldn't leave cause he locked himself in beforehand. The rats were the noise you heard in the walls that someone points out in the beginning. You saw a rat eating out of a bowl that the one sick lady must of used. That's how she got sick. The dog got sick from probably killing or coming in contact with another rat. The dog got the girl sick by licking her in the face probably. Everyone was bitten of course.
Anyone who got sick by the rats would have taken time to show symptoms. Those bitten and had the virus put directly in their blood stream would show signs faster of course. You see this as the movie progresses. Nothing is explained in detail as there was no time for anyone to stop and say "Hey, I figured it all out." You only get enough to let your mind imagine what the rest means.
Unless they got all the rats after everyone was dead, I think there could possibly be a sequel out of this. It's a good stand alone movie so there's really no need to make a sequel, but who knows.
Also, I hope the CDC isn't that stupid in real life.
Over all I liked this movie. More because it scared the crap out of me.
