I am in the process of creating a new helmet, (FS' high def model) I have recently bought 4 pounds of plastaline (sp?) modeling clay, and I have both of the vent areas of the helmet done (I got school to think about too you know)
My plan is to finish the helmet, resin it with two layers, maybe even a third layer for extra strength, and then sculpt over it in place of bondo and to get all of the details with the modeling clay (which is why I only bought 4 pounds) After which I will refine the sculpt, MAYBE use bondo, and then mold the finished helm.
I am hoping this works out as I am not experienced enough, or have the funds to experriment and work with various chemicals and mix stuff to make mud or rondo or whatever it's called as some of the more experienced people on these boards do. I do however have 200 dollars cash from new year (Which I saved) and am therefore able to afford molding and casting the helmet but only a max of 1-2 times depending on how much of the substances it takes for each try, therefore, I better be damn sure I get this right the first time, or as Adam said in one of his video's, it's 150 bucks down the drain.
I looked through the links provided in the sticky for supplies, and frankly, I can't figure out which Urethane, or which silicon to buy. I would like to know what the best of both is that I can get for my money, specifically stuff which creates the best molds, and the hardest/strongest plastic for my current money.
If this works out, I will be trying to make back some money to continue my armor making, and in fact, I have all of the armor parts except the boots pepakura'd and in various stages of resin at this point, have had them at this point for awhile. I have decided to retry however, starting with the helmet, as I feel the armor is not coming out detailed enough, it was my noobish attempt at great armor and obviously came out worse then I'd have liked it to, plus, now that the high-definition halo 3 models are avaible, I have a much better chance at good armor with my limited skills. As it stands now, I really want to finish my helmet and make it top-notch like the helmets made by the pro's on this site, I think I can, and it's my goal, but I have to pick my route first.
I am also considering going a non-molding path, but am only considering it for now.
So just to repeat, I'd like to know what types of plastics/silicon I should get for my current funds, which brands work best, etc. If this is in a sticky, I will find it sooner or later anyways as I am constantly reading stickies as I need to find out more info, but I havn't seen this mentioned anywhere yet (did a search twice on plastic)
