I'm getting back into 405th. I thought I would start off with a gun. I've never seen a Focus Rifle attempted before (or found one anyways). My last weapon bit the dust, so yup. Go big or go home!

I started off with outlining a pattern on some newsprint paper. I measured how the rifle looks in comparison to a Spartan in Forge. The Focus Rifle is about twice the length from your groin to your collarbone. For me, that's 46 inches. Then I traced the pattern onto some insulation foam and then cut the foam out with my heat needle. (No, I don't own a hot knife. I hope to when i can afford one.) That's all I have so far. More updates will follow soon. I hope to have this done by the 15th of December. I'll be participating in a charity event alongside some other Arizona Halo troopers.

Oh boy, I was hoping to see more from you! Yours were some of the first videos I watched to learn more about making armor, so I'll certainly be watching this one. ^_^ If I had the traveling money, I'd so be there. :(

Great to see you building again, i loved your suit and even decided to do a gunginr helmet because of how good yours looked. Maybe now you can inspire me to use insulation foam for a second weapon.

Hey sweetie! Great to see you back with us :)
Looking forward to this build. Please excuse my lack of replies due to life being busy. I haven't been on here for a while either but will pop in from time to time to see your updates :)

Aww yea, keep on building Roxy! You can do it! I'm out of town until event so I had an epic build week to make sure I've got a suit to wear, now it's your turn for an epic build week! When I get back I'd like to get started on a weapon too- I think I'm due for a trip to your place to witness the technique in person.

I hope you guys can forgive me if I don't reply to anyone specifically. I have only 1 week to get this done, so any spare time i have will go towards building. Here's a quick update. I've put pencils in the handle on both sides. I learned my lesson with my Jack Frost staff. Foam is great for carving, but it's very brittle. The pencils are put on stress points for added strength before adding detail work on top. Next, I used my snap knife to carve out the edging on the handle. I even carved through the pencils at certain points.

I will be doing a lot more work tomorrow. Ciao, peeps!

Dowels from Walmart or any hardware store would work better and they are cheap

No but they are stronger then pencils and you could probably get 2 guns out of one dowel

you could also use bamboo sticks used for gardening (to help little plants grow strong and provide support against harsh wind) I is one of the strongest natural materials and provides great stiffness too at a very cheap rate. I had some lying around in my garden and used it to make my custom UNSC Spartan Hybrid Energy Sword :)

I'm going to try to work at least 2 hours a day on this until saturday, then spend all saturday on finishing it. o.o I might be able to do this. Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines...

I know it doesn't look like much, but doing the base of any prop always takes the longest and shows the least for the amount of effort going into it. This is all the "under" work, the lowest layer of the form, from which I will build on top of. The bridge/top of the "nose" part of the rifle has a thinning edge. It's broad at the base, and then it thins out as it gets close to the end. I used posterboard and simply bent and glued it onto the carved foam. (I did a similar edging as I did on the handle). Then I went back to my pattern and copied it onto some scrap paper. I traced the pattern onto some matte board and cut it out... tediously. I didn't want to mess up, so i was careful and slow about it. I don't have time to make any mistakes on this project! Then when it was cut out, I just glued it on. I'll be smoothing the edges out with paperclay tomorrow. Do I have paperclay? I need to look. >_>

PICTURE TIME.
See you tomorrow.

So Happy I caught this, your work is amazing!
It's a privilege to see a master piece constructed in present time.

Keep up the excellent work!

Awesome work so far! I'm a big fan of reinforced foam for weapon props.
