I'm back! Next post will hopefully be delving into some construction specifics on the torso- wanted to put a small update on the Titlewave pro series helmet. The main body of the helmet I used my new powerhouse k2 plus for FDM printing, and for now at least I only have access to very small scale vacuform capabilities so I knew I wouldn't be able to rely on that for a visor.

Enter my Elegoo Saturn S resin printer and sunlu transparent blue resin! The model JUST fit on the print bed, an incredibly tight fit. That being said after washing and curing it was a great fit- though I'm sure it wasn't something anyone would want to try and peer through trooping:

Visibility at this point with some light sanding was practically nonexistent, i maybe could see my fingers pressed up against the visor. But hell, if we don't love a challenge!

At this point I cracked out the sandpaper, gave the whole thing a nice 200-ish grit sand down front and back, did my best to blend the pips from the support removal on the inside as best as i could, and once the surface seemed decently prepped i did wet sanding runs on the whole thing in 200, 400, 600, 800, 1200, 2000 and 2400 grit if I recall properly. Visor was very smooth, still basically opaque though. Really trusting the process at this point.

Gave it a wipedown with rubbing alcohol and let it dry before taking it outside and hitting it with Duplicolor 1K Clear High gloss coat, it's an automotive clear coat, should give us a nice clear non yellowing layer thats durable, and also it's nice and thick so it fills a lot of those pips and scrapes and the edges of the pixels not knocked down that really eat away at transparency- we do about 3 coats of that following the instructions front and back and leave it to cure.

At this point i was getting really nervous because at first it really didnt look like it was clearing the resin. after about an hour the sides were clear but the center wasn't- I thought perhaps there was too much material there. figured maybe iId sand down and try again once it was safe to touch.

By the time I got back- boy was I surprised! We were in the clear(Pun intended)

Great visibility no, very happy with it, especially in the context of the process it was made in. I'd say it's a relief to be done, but i'll be doing Gearsofhalo 's visor next the same way. From there he'll take care of  any polarization effects!

Other than that, lots still going on in the background, i'll be reporting back very soon, have a lot i want to get done before going on vacation next week. Until then!
