I'm looking into sculpting a Halo 3 marine helmet in clay for molding. I was hoping someone someone would have an idea for what to use as a base for the sculpture. Do they make busts that can be used to sculpt on that are the proper size, ie. normal-sized head? If so, where could I procure one. If not, any ideas?

Wow! That was easy. I wonder how close the bust is to 50th Percentile male size. I plan to size the helmet to fit as wide a range of people as possible. I'm thinking that making different linings will work. Thicker for those with small heads, thinner for those with larger craniums. I'll also be making a provision for a chinstrap. It has always bugged me that the in-game ones lacked that feature. I'll worry about what to cast it out of at a later time, like when I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I really need to have less time-consuming hobbies, what with my work schedule :D.

Also, check out your local hair care store, wig maker, or retail supplier warehouse for manequin heads, busts, etc.

I got a torso for something like 10 bucks last year. Real cheap.

/props to ya Sean. Very informative and thorough.

I'm looking forward to seeing your solution to the full figure mannequin.
