Thanks Vandoore. Definately hoping I am able to get it finished for November Supanova. And it doesn't end up looking too lame!

Fingers (and toes) crossed ;)

Loving the lighting on the back vents mate. Ill soon be at that stage! might have to ask for a few tips.

The suit is coming along beautifully! Good luck for November!

Thanks U513, not sure how much help I would be coz I am just fudging it along myself lol.

Update Time!

I did a quick build of the reach pistol over the weekend (all that grey foam was getting depressing, needed something different)

Lights on when slide fully closed. (Just needs to be slightly off the battery connection to turn off, it still looks closed)

I think the muzzle and torch bit under the muzzle are a bit too short so I may re-make it. Also do something else with the battery connection maybe.

Let me know what you think. :D

First off, very nice work on the armor so far. It is ver clean looking :)
Second, omg that is an awesome gun! lol So i take it the whole thing is hallowed out for the lights and battery and whatnot? that is brilliant! lol

Um, walkthrough on how you managed to get the 9v and LED's into the foam, please?
Seriously, amazing job on that pistol!
I'm assuming that's just 2mm foamies on the outside, right?

This thread gets better every time it updates.
MS7

that's awesome work on the weapon! im going to use the pictures/sketch to build my own if that is ok? :D

im going for three/four weapons A pistol, the m2476H from reach, a rifle (not decided which one) and a halo Spartan sword (someone else was building one so I am going to play around with different designs and come up with my own custom sword as well

U513 - Go for it! I will also be building an AR. Still trying to figure out the logistics of mounting it on the back of the armor though.

Mstruvmgc and MS7 - Thanks guys, I was planning on doing another one anyway (my youngest son really really really wants this one and the perfectionist in me won't let me get away with the too short barrel) so when I re-do it I will do a walk-thru and more pics along the way.

Oh I forgot to mention in the update that there is a metal plate under the grip so that I can use magnets to mount it on the thigh armor (when they are eventually made) was also thinking of adding a detachable bit of fishing line somehow so if the pistol is knocked off the magnets by a passerby, I won't lose it on the floor and into someone else's hot little hands :angry

Sorry can't take anymore pics right this second to show the battery etc, am visiting family for a couple of days but when I get back I will definitely get some more up.

Thanks again for all your encouragement! ;)

Not to be a downer but I wouldn't get your hopes up to high on mounting a gun on your back. I have completed a foam chest piece and even with out putting my biceps on I cant reach behind my back. If your pistol is any evidence of your skill you may be able to get around this though.

I can imagine it would be difficult to reach for a rifle on the back, Spartan IV. I was thinking of maybe mounting it in a way that is removable by someone (not necessarily me) but is more for aesthetics to finish off the armor, and use the pistol as the main pew pew pew weapon :p

Feel free to use anything for future reference, PolyEngineer :D

I have to say, that pistol is DYNAMITE. I too am trying to figure out how to mount my AR on my back...it is pretty much impossible to reach, but I need to be able to hang it somewhere! I am also worried about the weight of the AR hanging on the foam torso, mine is kinda heavy. I might reinforce the torso interior with smoothcast...I don't know.
Anyway, fantastic work so far, keep it up!

Thanks guys!!

Ok so I promised I would show more on the battery and lights set up on the pistol.

Here are the lights and battery that I used. (Well they are the spare ones I will use on the new one I make)
IMAG0213_zps9280a6d5.jpg

I just used drill bits to carve out holes to fit the LED's and it took a little poking and prodding (and a lot of swearing!) to get the wiring to meet up the top into the barrel cover (sorry no pic of the pulled out hair and angry faces). The battery clip is just hot glued into the back of the barrel cover.

The battery fits into the slide which is hollow.

And as a treat, the slide removed to show how it fits in.

I know its not very neat in there but you don't see that bit anyway :D
As always comments, criticisms, advice etc always welcome!

You know, Radio Shack has some simple-to-program sound boards that reset when you remove power. You can set it to fire 12 times and then produce only clicks until you "chamber a round."

Yea we don't have radio shack here in Australia. I'm sure there is something similar at Jaycar or somewhere. I will have to look into for when I make the other one. Also I will have to come up with a count down LED display for when I make the AR. :D

Haha Awesome :)

I like the Reach Pistol, its great to see that you build it so simple !

And the Battery in the slide, haha Keep it up man.

Regards

Alex

The pistol has been painted!! I still have to add some yellow bits on it (only colour I don't have :()
But here it is.

Close up of writing. Looks kind of poxy coz I have only written it in with pen for now. On the new one I may make it look stamped on.

Feedback etc You know the drill :D

*Apologies for double post* Painting update.

I went out and bought some yellow paint so I could do the detail on the pistol.
