I was thinking of making a full suit of SPARTAN armor for my Senior Seminar. Is it possible to finish if I got started in June and presented in March? Also, I was somewhat curious about the pepakura armor. Is it easier than molding? I really want a good quality suit that'll (somewhat) stand a beating. Durability would be my main focus rather than detail. Lastly, does this fall under "engineering"? Thank you all.

EDIT: Would it be a good idea to use titanium in some parts of the armor?

It could go under engineering, in some cases.

And, no, I don't think titanium would be fit for prop armor. Fiberglass already petrifies the thing. Fiberglass and Resin are strengtheners, trust me.

And also, June to March is a helluva lot of time. You can easily do it, just take your time, and don't skip steps. Get all the details you can before saying you're done, or you'll regret it.

Good luck!

I've read through many stickies, however I do not understand a few things. I am a complete noob at this by the way.

1) Are the paper models used to model the actual helmet? Or is it actually used to build the helmet?

2) Is there a full parts list that details everything that I need? I've been looking around for one.

3) Is there also a full tut somewhere?

4) As for my community consultant, would a costume designer be appropriate?

Thanks again.

1. You use the CARDSTOCK paper to build the helmet then fiberglass the inside an/or resin the helmet [or piece of armor].
2. a full parts like armorwise or supplies?
armor wise hit up the wiki pepakura list located in the pepakura forum.

3. Full tuts are rare, most of them a assembling others are resin, bondo and stuff.
basically
assemble your cardstock armor pieces> fiberglass insides [look at tuts]> resin the out then bondo it for detail>paint it. and if a bit worried of cracks add layers of resin. thats it in a nutshell
4. wah? clarify please

For Senior Seminar, we are required to have someone in the community help us with our project and present with us in front of a board of judges. The presentation will last between 10-20 minutes. I'm planning to do it all inside the suit

ohhh in that case have your assistant do the cutting and pasting hahahaha [thats every armorers dream lol]
or split the work with him
so you can be doing two things at once. best you keep him informed on how to carry out this build.

Err, let me clarify, some one in the community who's had experience in what I'm doing (for example a costume designer) So I'd talk to him in order to get advice. It would be more like me being the assistant.

EDIT: Also, I do want some really good detail in it, where can I find the most detailed model out there? And how do I do the detailing?
