I have started a H1 Marine Helmet from Pep. I plan on making the Marine Helmet from each Halo, as the pep files become available. I am pretty early in the process and I am not sure how fast I will be going with the Army insisting I come to work on a regular basis and the wife and daughter taking up most of my other time, so please be patient.

I will not really be explaining much as all this info is in the stickies. If I deviate from the norm, I might explain but don't count on it. This is mainly to for me to show off the process and maybe inspire some other builders.

I will start at the beginning:

Hehe

Seriously, this is folded from the HCE Marine Armor pack, you can search it pretty easily.

The size was fine first time out...can't remember the scaling... but with the size of the helmet, the ear area was a little tight on my huge melon. I slit the paper, slid it in a bit a reglued it. Don't have a pic but here are the areas in question.

Then the resin: 3 coats to stiffen it up.

Next I will be using some casting resin to slush the inside rather than use fiberglass. I had it around from making my 40K Tau helmet and it's getting close to it's shelf life. Plus it does not make me itch. I am actually doing that now, pics when I can.

very nice so far!

also could you post a pic of that Tau helmet! I play Necron, but I still like the Tau look! ;)

Did that about a year ago. Learned a lot from it, though the lessons were expensive. I am not sure if the texture shows very well but I am thinkig of going the same way with the Marine helmet. I have a hard time believing these buckets would be made from metal. I went with a more Kevlar look from my work helmet. Those things are like sandpaper.

That helmet pictured above is metal? Very very nice work? How'd you do it? It looks way too smooth!

No, it is slush cast resin from a clay sculpture. I was saying I went the composite look of a Kevlar Helmet when I made this and I was thinking of doing the same thing with the Marine Lid.

Space Marine Suit > Tau Suit

Regardless though, that is beyond awesome. I intend on doing a little Tau myself, simply Fantasic helmet.

Just kidding (not really) but thanks for the compliment. You should check out Thorsolli's helmet thread, he has some pics of the beakie marine helmet. It's pretty sweet.

So things have been a little busy so I have been unable to work on this as much as I would like but I finally got to it this weekend a little. I have started smoothing the top of the helmet using Rock Hard Water Putty.

Since I plan on molding this when it is complete I did not use bondo, and this stuff is cheaper but like the name says, it's Rock Hard. Well, pretty hard.

There are about 4 thin layers built up and sanded back down. There is still some work to do but I wanted to put out an update.

Now some rounding off and such.

Noticed that the helmet is torqued a bit so I am trying to figure out a way to realigned it without starting over. I may just remove the lower part of the helmet and rebuild that since I like the way the top is already turning out.

I also found out today that I am being reclassed by the Army and my school starts in May, which could put a serious damper on this project. I am hoping to finish by the time I move all my household goods because that will be a 4 month school follow pretty closely by a deployment to the sandbox for up to 15 months. We shall see.

Quick update for my own ego since this is quite possibly the most boring WIP on here.
I am moving at a snails pace because of work and family...Not much time for hobbies.

I chopped some bits off the helmet as I noticed it was a little torqued. I am going to rebuild the bottom section using Sintra. Here are pics of the Sintra clamped around the bottom of helmet. I heated it with a heat gun and let it cool to hold the shape. Next step is to attach that, fill and sand some more.

I have about a month to finish this, mold it and cast it. After that I will be in training for four months and then it's off to Iraq most likely. Either way it will be at least 4 months before I will be able to finish it. I hope to finish, I would hate to drop this project.

It still require mucho sanding but I have not been able to do that as easily. Hopefully this week I can get in the garage and work.

It's good to see more warhammer players.
The marine helmet it looking sweet, you have some serious skills, and i LOVE that tau helmet!
Once I've finished my mjolnir, I'm going to make kasrkin armor.

Hey! This is the first helmet I started out with!

Looks really good so far, keep it up!

BTW, that Tau helmet rocks!

I think the sintra might be 3mm. I bought it a long time ago and don't really remember.

I am glad people like the Tau helmet. If I cannot get the marine helmet to a place where I can mold before I take off, I might just mold the tau helmet. I have a bunch of material thhat I will just have to toss unless I use it so why not.
