styrofoam recon helmet

hi everyone this is first post I've done on my own so please go easy on me.

hey guys Spartan 060 here and I'm make'n a recon helmet and just ordered the foam
here's my reference pics

if anyone can get me one for the top of the helmet it would be amazing (seriously I am begging and searching with a fine toothed comb)
 
Styrofoam? Are you going to be molding it? Most foam helms are made with Eva foam
 
I believe that is Will Cherry AKA Evoc Props' renders, not a game reference.

Here's the game asset rendered out. To do this I just opened up the obj models from the file archive, applied the recon helmet texture and normal map, some lights and a white background, and moved the camera around for different renders.

Wish I knew how to color-shift textures. I think their engine probably shifts anything green or white to change the paint scheme.

I'm not sure how to custom-colour the game textures myself, Vrogy, but converting them from a TIFF to a JPG and converting the image to greyscale usually does it for me.
 
thank you for those pics I am freakishly close to falling to the ground and worshipping you vrogy. I was desperate to get those veiws.
 
it's actually not that hard, they just map collors to a mask (the collors are generated by code input)
For every diffrent collor they have a diffrent maskcollor.

Hey could you tell me if anyone has an archive for texture? Because I could really make them pop.

They packed all except normals and diffuse into one file using the different color channels to represent the different maps. Red + specular. Blue = Gloss. And green = level to which color can be applied.
 
Yeah carving is more difficult then using patterns to piece together like Pepa Kyra or Eva foam

actually I am quite proficient in carving and have 2 chisel sets and a knife set for wood and other stuff so it'll be easier for me with my whittling and carving experience but to each his own.
find the best for you and roll with it.
(I never recommend my own style to others)
 
alright guys your going to have to wait 'bout 5 or 6 days for me to begin physical work on my helmet but during this time I will attempt to occupy you and possibly help you with a similar production.

really sorry bout the lack of pics on progress Halloween and lack of internet and a camera defeated me. but I will try better now.
