Due to an inability to find any, do they even exist outside of the Halo 3 in game data?

I'm trying to find more on the EOD survivability when exposed to explosives, how close can you get?

Oh and hello everybody

My name is Robert and I'm new to the 405th, stumbled upon pep and ended up here, not sure yet what i plan on making but i have so ideas.

Welcome and Enjoy your stay.

That's an odd thing to ask on a costuming board. But to answer your question LOW and not very.

I ask for costuming purposes, wanted to know so I could decide how to paint one, just specifics, It's what I do.

so you want to paint it like he made it through an IED or booby-trap explosion? or were you thinking of something else like a close-proximity plasma explosion? the effects would look completely different.

Fragmentation damage:

there would be alot of missing paint [impact scars from small debris, pebbles and smaller], several deep gashes [from larger, sharper bits and bobs, about the size of your finger from tip to 2nd knuckle], and maybe one or two realy severe chunks missing/dents from a direct hit from one or more of the above. and i don't care how tough a spartain is, being clse enough for that armour to sustain damage from the shockwave WOULD kill him, or at minimum blow a limb off. Keeping in mind that frag patterns [even from specialized explosive devices like frag grenades, arty shells, etc] are pretty much random, i have no advice on where the damage would concentrate... that's completely dependant on the situation.

Energy explosive damage:

the modern analogue for an 'energy explosion' would be a thermobaric weapon... and lets just say if you're close enough to be hit, you're not going home in one peice... if they can even locate that much of you. intense heat is used to create enourmous amounts of preasure, and that is what does the damage. Assuming this is the kind of explosion something like a plasma grenade or covenant tank-gun-round would result in, then modeling that damage is pretty much a moot-point. it would either be close enough to kill you [like being hit by a concrete wall moving at supersonic speeds], or not; which means you might get a few scratches from rocks that weren't immediately converted into dust, and maybe some dirt.

'Well-used' damage:

the rgular scrapes, chipped paint, maybe one or two big scars in the armour from a glancing peice of shrapnel, but if the occupant is alive, and a SPACE EOD, then he's probably never been too close when something really destructive went off.

then again, that's a real-world assessment of the question based on a lack of specific info. in HALO, anything seems to be survivable for the Cheif [see sigline below]...

if you have a specific idea in mind, let us know so we can be more specific, and maybe even helpful with our responses lol... or are you trying to suprise us with the build? [in which case i'll stop asking silly questions]

I would expect the OED's to get more than the regular upkeep treatment that a spartin would get, simply because of the fact that their armour needs to be perfect if it's going to stand up to something an EOD got called in for.

Also: you aren't going to find a data sheet like that outside of a military testing facility, because that kind of info would give a nefarious individual some very dangerous intelligence.

Rent The Hurt Locker so you can get an idea of IED explosions, the damage that one can cause.

My Grandpa was a EOD specialist in Korea, and so he defused bombs booby traps, mines, bouncing betties, ammuntion, dud arty rounds.. only problem is 'ol Grandpa was Colorblind, one lucky dude.

but back in the day most of that stuff was mechanical detention, wasn't it? But I'm not a expert and I wasn't there.

Thank you very much for the info, I have seen the hurt locker and it does say that the suit is designed to move the shock wave away from the body to keep the percussion from killing them, mostly it was so i could paint it to look like a fragmentation explosive had gone off, I knew the different patterns but i wasn't sure how well they would affect an EOD suit, Would it be a "oh hell" and have them thrown around or would it go off in their face and they just laugh and piss on it.

thank you again for the info
