The Wikia Is Totaly Bugged Out

I haven't had any problems with it (haven't used it in a little while, though), but it's possible someone from the Admin/Mod group could be working on it. I'd heard mention they were wanting to make a few changes to the site. This could be one of them. I'm sure one of the Admins/Mods will chime in here and give you a more definitive answer

There's nothing I know of, but I'll be sure to find out as I've been seeing complaints in several threads about this.

I too have noticed problems with the wiki.

Not that I needed to download anything..

Picture = thousand words ect.

Ok yeah I noticed the pictures missing, but not much else. That's why I need to know what exactly people are having problems with as I checked most of the 405th mirror links and the all seem to work.

If the only real issue is that the thumbnailed images aren't showing up, that's not a big deal. I was thinking along the lines of people not being able to download any of the files or something.

We've all played HALO enough to know what each of the armour permutations and weapons look like, so that's not a major issue.

Obviously, it would still be good to get the image files working properly again, for anyone not of the 405th who checks out the Wiki, they'll be able to see and know what each file is.

Well nobody messed the code or anything:

===[[Recon]]===
Now, You can haz recon!

I reckon its the file host and image host.

Ok I think I got it..
Links are fine for files, so no issues there.
If you trace the links for the images they are hosted are on the 405th. Doesn't seem like a big deal except it is unable to display the image. If you follow the link to the image you get an error stating you must be logged in to upload files lol
I think the image files either are missing or are in a protected area.
Hope this helps...

The marine armor links are missing out totally, no marines :(

EDIT:

Noticed some of it was there, but not all pieces!

The marine armor links are missing out totally, no marines

I noticed back when I joined the 405th, there were files for complete Halo 1 and Halo 3 marine suits. For a while, they were completely gone, but now I notice that the Halo 3 helmet and torso armor are back. Where are the rest of the files?

I'm sure the Admin/Mod group is already working on fixing this, fellas. Please be patient a while longer until they can figure things out ;)

For those looking for marine files I believe if you look up Garland's topics, he has all three marine styles.

Yup, it's being checked.

Minor vandalism, but over-time, so it's harder to track. I put back in most of the marine today when Magnum alerted me to isues over there. Fixed a couple of other things too, but I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

Apparently, there's also been issues of someone changing authorship on some of the PEP again. I'm going to get the original credits back where possible, and bring up all the folks responsible for those edits, and look at banning them from the Wiki, and possibly from here as well. It's stuff like that which may cause us to lock the page.

We might have to look at a new way to host these... it's a little awkward trying to fix that huge page when noone reports or fixes the little things they notice, and then more good content is added over parts of it. Like in this case, there were entire sections added that are good, so I don't want to overwrite them by rolling back to an earlier document date. That means I gotta' do it manually, line-by-line for something close to 1000 edits.

Plus, if someone's adding stuff, and doesn't know why it causes the format to become screwed-up.. Let me know immediately please.. some of that stuff can be complicated, but I'll be happy to fix it for you.

It's great that some of you are participating and adding content, but if you mess something up and don't tell me, it starts looking like hell for everybody, and it's a million times harder to straighten it out again.

For right now.. assume that it's all messed up and I'm working to fix it. If you notice any problems right now, don't bother reporting it, but by next week, I'm hoping you guys will get on the talk page for my wiki page, or for the messed up page itself and get it reported so it can be fixed without hours and hours of cycling through junk edits.

I soo hate vandels This sucks...
I wish I could help but given my schedule it would be difficult. One suggestioin I have is to lock it down, use a password with 12 characters or so. only let a couple of people moderate it for now. Then start giving logons back out again.

Dayum... sounds like the Wiki's more messed up than we thought :(

I don't envy you having to go to all that effort to get it working properly again, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates your dedication, DG

Just out of curiosity, if you were to reset it to an earlier document date, how much new material would be lost? If it's not too much, perhaps we could ask those who posted the newest files to re-upload them once you've gotten the problem fixed.

I'm just thinking in terms of maybe making your job a little easier and saving you some valuable time, given how much of that is going to be involved.

I mean, 1000 edits? Yikes. That's going to keep you busy for a long while, buddy

Aside from your suggestion to lock the Wiki page, I think it might be a good idea for anyone wanting to post new Pep files there to submit it to the Admin/Mod group for approval before it's added to the Wiki, rather than doing it themselves.

Number one, that'll cut back on the illegal authorship revisions being made to some of the files, if the Admin/Mod group reviews it prior to uploading to the Wiki. Number two, that process will help keep things a little less cluttered there.

It's an idea, anyway

EDIT: Looks like rogue and I were thinking the same thing, lol. He just beat me to posting it :p

I thought it would be vandalism or something. I don't if I should of done this, since I'm not a member of the wiki or in charge of changing stuff, but I changed the Recon title so it would just say Recon, not Recon/halo2, EVA title so it would say EVA, and also the CQB title so it would say CQB.

Ok, The pep files are in pretty good shape now.

Apparently there were 1000's of edits because there were people who added a legitimate item, but didn't understand the format. As a result, there were MANY many many full-page edits that merely changed a bracket here or there in an attempt to fix it.

In future, I really hope you'll contact someone to fix it for you, rather than making more that two "fix-up" edits. Always use the preview button to "test" an edit... Experience has taught me that we all make stupid formatting mistakes from time to time, and a preview will catch them before making a mess of the edit history.

Also.. do not change headings! If you disagree with the layout, please discuss it on the discussion page and we'll see if it's something we all want or not. Changing the headings (including sub-headings) ruins links all over the wikia, so we can't do that lightly. I recognized that someone wanted to re-label things so that the Mjolnir armor would be listed as "Halo 1 Armor" and suchlike, but that's not something I'm ready to overhaul the entire Wikia to do. If you lose track, and can't identiify the pictures of Halo 1 armor, you can go to the Mjolnir page to see a breakdown of the mjolnir types.

There was a lot of vandalism too.. I finally decided to get it all "back to normal"by essentially redoing the formatting by hand, on the fly rather than undoing edits. It took hours and hours, but I think I pretty much got it all. I replaced the chunks that I thought were missing.

If there's anything still messed-up, or missing, please bring it to my attention if you are unable to correct it yourself. I have SYSOP powers on the Wikia, but most of those "powers" are ones we all have access to. We can all correct errors, and many thanks to those of you that went ahead and corrected some of the obvious vandalism when you saw it.

I haven't banned many folks on the Wikia, except for some of the really bad stuff, and very few of those were members here. I abandoned fishing through the garbage to find all the culprits. and those that did things prior to this date, are at least unlikely to get banned from here or there, but starting now, that's going to change.

Well-intentioned accidents are one thing.. but vandalism will not be tolerated.
