HEY All!

Well as my ODST build comes along and edges ever closer to completion I came to the realization that I need a soldiers best friend... a Rifle!

Since i found i didn't have the scratch to purchase a rifle, i decided to go with marshon's cardboard method.

Starting with Wizard of Flight's BR blueprints, I got a rough idea of how to layer the materials off the cardboard base as well as the getting a rough idea of the dimensions...

Then i mocked up a pattern on bristol board...

And after some fine tuning of the paper mock up i began the build...

As you can see the barrel is made of PVC and i braced it with foam brackets but the rest is carboard.

Well folks thats all for now. Tell me what you think!

Cheers!!

Thanks man i appreciate it,

So been working more on this project today and already have a problem with it... it's too wide! Despite this I'm going to finish the project. Because I'm a big guy i'm hoping it will just look right on me.

Anywho more progress pix to come!

UPDATE TIME!

Ok folks, even with school on i have been working diligently! Due to crappy weather my armor has taken a back seat for a bit but I'm all over the BR.

So I'll get to the pictures in a sec but there's something i found at the local Mighty Taco (Buffalo's own branch of mexican fast food) that you might all find interesting....

Halo has even invaded the taco industry! (ignore the taco beef stain)

I was meeting up with a friend and i look down and im like "HOLY SH** IS THAT MASTER CHEIF!" needless to say i was surprised to see that halo has even breached a local taco place in buffalo lol.

Anyway now to the progress...

Well there it is!

As you can see i have managed to get the back portion of the weapon put together, adding the butt plate, upper receiver, charging handle, selective firing switch, trigger AND closed ejection port all last night. Whats left is the fore grip and doing some more detail work before the paint.

So thats about it. Please let me know what y'all think since this is my first attempt at a weapon I could use any advice or pointers you can offer up!

Thanks for the comment so far. Now back to the grind for me!

it looks gud :) what do you use to cut it? because im using cardboard on some stuff. and i really hate cutting it with scissors... :D gudluck!

@ gotarmor: Thanks man, and yea im going to add a grip to the handle to make it a little more stream line with the gun.

@ skullboy: I used a box cutter and xacto knife. Using scissors probably isn't the best idea as they are just going to rip it as opposed to giving you a clean cut. You can pick up box cutters at Walmart and xacto knives and blades pretty much at any craft store. Hope that helps man and thanks for the comment!

Ok folks after an all or nothing day of working on my armor as well as the BR, I can now say i have a finished product!

Here it is!

Well that's the culmination of my 2 weeks of work.

So how do i feel? First I think for my first weapon it could have been much worse lol. Second, I'm an art student so I look at almost everything i do as "well it could have been better". Finally i do realize the gun is too thick (with a 2" width) and that the weathering could be better.

So now that i have torn my work apart, ill say what i do like. I think its a good first attempt and will get me through my first few appearances in my ODST armor and for that matter i plan to continue to try and build weapons after this. But if all else fails i could just turn to some of the excellent weapons makers here on the forum once i build up some money!

Well folks there it is! Please tell me what you think, I want all the input i can get to help me in future weapon making.

Thanks for the comments in advance,

Cheers!
