Hello All.

So I finally got the chance to fiberglass and resin my MKVI Helmet. BUT while I was waiting for the weather to clear up I went ahead and made Belakor's Recon helmet file. And when the weather finally cooperated I got the MKIV glassed and resin'd. Tomorrow is bondo for that one. The Recon helmet just got its first coat of resin on the inside and will be glassed tomorrow also. Will keep pics updated :)) Tell me what you think for a first timer. Oh and fyi Yes I will be using a dremel to clean up the edges of the glass and cut the visor. Thanks!!

Sorry for so many pics!!

Both helmets are looking good so far :D

OOhh very nice. I'm stilling trying to figure out when I can resin, and making sure how because I never done it before. Off to the tutorials!

Nice job on the helmets. They look good. On the third pic, of your MKVI helmet, is it warping, or is that how its supposed to look? (i obviously don't know, since I haven't made any armor yet. lol)

Also, are you resining the outside of the recon helmet too?

Yeah my MKVI is warping a tiny bit but a lil bit of bondo and tender loving care should take care of that :p hehe and Yeah I just barely got the first coat of resin on the inside of my recon. Im going to put the fiberglass on the inside tomorrow and then when that all dries Ill resin the outside just like my MKVI. Then bondo for the recon too :D

Why do you resin the inside, then glass it, THEN resin the oustide? Is it better that way? like less warping?

Like why don't you resin both outside and in at once, then glass, or resin inside, let it dry, then outside, let it dry, then glass?

I guess it could be just because you decided to do it that way and either way has the same results, but hey, i'm trying to dig for those little trade secrets so i'm prepared when i start on my armor. lol.

Keep in mind I have been doing LIGHT coats! You soak the cardstock in too much liquid you will get some warping you cannot recover from. By doing light coats and only one side at a time I can minimize the risk of warping and I can also make sure that each layer is good. I just dont wanna take any chances heh :p Good luck on your own when you start!

That recon is looking real good, nice work on pepakua for a first attempt! Are you planning to really finish them (resin, fibergkass, bondo?)

What she said... :D lol

I think it's kewl that more members here are putting together that Recon helmet now. I really like the look of that helmet. Any plans to do any of the other variants?

did you reenfoce any of the seams before putting the resin on?
Nope! Just glue'd the pieces together like normal and then glass'd it!

Thanks Frost! And yes I am planning on finishing both of them! The MKVI is getting it's first bondoing today actually, and the recon should be getting a glass coat today as well! Im planning on finishing both all the way to completion.

Yeah I am planning on doing some more variants. I'm kinda sticking with helmets right now I might pump one or two more out before I actually start to build the rest of my MKVI armor. But who knows haha! :p

Looking good.

This looks like it'll turn out really great.

Make sure you use thin layers of Bondo, though. Thick layers are near-impossible to sand down.

Bondo is enough of an annoyance anyways.

Yeah I did a test patch just to see what the heck it does...haha and realized this very fact!! haha but thanks I'll be sure to keep it in mind! Will post pics later tonight as soon as I get it sanded down.

I did like 20 coats of Bondo on my first helmet. I put them the thinner I could, wait for it to dry, then I sand it the more I can. Did this like 20 times and it was perfectly smooth. Are you using a filling primer?
