A peculiar theory, but interesting. Essentially, the Traveler would be Halo in sphere form, and the other races are fighting for control over it.

Bungie are well known for integrating their games with each other. Halo almost definitely referenced all of Bungie's past games, it's hardly surprising to think that they've included sly nudges and winks to their previous works in Destiny.
