I quote one of the highest rated episode of all time of Star Trek. This was in Deep Space Nine.
Sisko: I'm no writer, but if I were, it seems to me that I'd want to poke my head up once in a while and take a look around - see what's going on. It's life, Jake; you can miss it if you don't open your eyes.
Perfect example of why I honestly think MMO's are one of the worst things that have come out in the last well almost 15 years. Mainly because the people that play them (including me, but I don't play anymore), but I used to play them ALOT, and it became my entire life. All I cared about was making the highest level and getting the best gear.
At that point I was completely oblivious to everything else going on around the world. And frankly could have cared less what was going on in my own backyard. Life is too short to be spending ALL your time playing games. I still play games, just not MMOs. Besides if you get some armor there's always Live Action RPG's. I don't do them, but I've seen people that do. You actually interact with REAL people, not avatars, and actually have some human interaction. Not my thing, but could be for some.
I guess what I'm saying in the end is... life is too short to worry about getting up a cartoon character on a computer screen to level 70 and then doing it again all over when all Blizzard or any other company has to do is flip an off switch and all that work that I thought meant something is gone. Blizzard and their characters don't define who I am, I define who I am.
