Yeah. So I tried having a go and i don't know if i am posting this topic in the right place. I only have paper mache in my disposal so i am gonna try it with that because I am poor.

I had to use sellotape instead of glue becausethe glue i had didn't work on card. Then I bought glue and then ran out so i had to finish with a little sellotape. Then mache'd it up.
It looks like s***t.
Sorry

No pics? maybe someone will have tips once they get a look at what you have. Its gotta be tough using tape.

Well.. its not as bad as it seems I think. First off - Ive never used tape or paper mache'. Others have though and hopefully someone will give you some good tips on using those materials!

I think it is salvageable. The shape is there, its not lopsided or anything horrible. On limited funds, I would work with it and see if you can dress it up and learn from it. You just might save it!

If it becomes hopeless, try another using glue, it will be more clean looking and easy to work with, plus you will be able to apply what you learned from your first attempt to your second.

I wish I could be more help, but Ive never used those materials. I wouldnt give up on it yet though if I were you.

Good luck! If I find something that may help, Ill send the info your way.

looks good and i haven't seen anybody us paper mache' either but yes hope someone will give you tips and good luck :)

wow, never seen anyone use paper mache! that actually seems like a neat idea. I've heard it dries pretty hard... I might try this on some scrap pieces. I'm wondering since you used tape instead of glue... can the mask hold multiple layers of paper mache? Hopefully your build goes well, good luck

That's what troubles me. Tips would be great asap cos it seems a bit too soggy. I don't think its gonna harden to be honest and i will be really annoyed if it doesnt LOL. It seems squishy LOL

I would highly suggest that you buy some superglue and try not to waste your time in making the helmet and wasting paper if you're going to use tape. Also I have not seen paper mache in use on pepakura but judging from the fact that it is hard paper it will be durable but not enough for sanding. Also Paper mache tends to add a texture thing going on so I don't know where you're going to go from that. That is my tip for you!

I've used papermache with pepakura for one of my non halo costumes its tricky you have to be REALLY careful with the glue not to add too much and to take a break and let it dry after each layer maybe try covering it in foil or masking tape before mache-ing. Good luck

looks a lot better than my first, which latter was doused in gasoline and burned (i need to protect the world from my monstrosity). I probably would have stayed away from tape but its interesting to see someone attempt to tackle the challenge.

You could try to use a mix of shredded paper (think confetti) and glue. This should create kind of a paste that you can use inside the helmet. However, this may also soak the paper, so try to seal it first.

But - it's just an idea, I haven't tried this! So do a small-scale experiment first :)

Edit: By glue, I meant something like wheatpaste.

@ Ventrue, I'd be too worried about it adding too much moisture to the cardstock (I'm hoping she's using cardstock)
but also I forgot to mention, like Ventrue said, Be sure to papermache the INSIDE that way you keep all the detail of the pep model if you do it on teh outside you will probably lose detail as the papermache wont conture to the pep model perfectly.

Well, that's why I said "seal it first" ;-)
It may also be a good idea to do small sections at a time.

i cant see why varnish couldn't get the job done. It shouldn't soak into the paper and it dries quick enough. I used it once to strengthen a hover craft

You can pick up a micro hot glue gun and a bundle of glue sticks in the Wal Mart crafts section for around $5. I think you might find it much more convenient to use.
