Helmet/ Suit Cooling

I have always wondered with this. For my helmet, I run an 80mm computer fan. Yeah, it is loud but compared to the other Spartans here, mine has the least fogging issues of them all. However, during one con, it rained a lot and it was already humid and it actually fogged up hard. Visibility is less than THREE feet. I left room for expansion on a exhaust, but I think I will need to install another fan and wire that up to its own battery pack. (My helmet is heavy already XD.) I have several holes in the back for the intake of the main fan. Most people look at a cosplayer/costumer from the front anyway....

Though I am looking into incorporating PC liquid cooling systems for my next suit. I just need to figure all of that out.

I watched Adam Savage's chill pack shirt that didn't last long and having the fans... But I got to see and learn from that for my next upcoming build.

I wonder how well this would work.. the Cool Shirt... in regard to weight, power requirements, etc...?

It would be a really cool idea to use a cool shirt but I cant see how you'd manage to fit a reservoir in the Master Chief suit! plus really expensive! My thinking at the moment is have two personal ACU's in the two back pods on the halo 4 suit. Something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sinbury-Con...4593&sr=8-3&keywords=personal+air+conditioner

I'd then 'hack' them to output through flexitubing that runs through the suit to apply the cooling to different parts. I was planning to use a one-way disconnect-able valve to the helmet so I could still take it off without removing the ACU from the suit. I may even try and hack a remote switch so I could turn them on and off without taking off the suit.

On a kind of cool side note I'm going to try and have some sort of hidden GoPro mount in the chest piece to record peoples reactions etc. so while it's going to be up there with high tech cosplay suits, it won't have a water cooling system by a long way!

I am just gonna leave this here ;)

the PCB is a Brush less DC motor driver ( a Drone or other 3 phase Delta Hobby one should work too!!!!!!!)

TECs ( Solid state modules ) are not as eff% as normal compressors so from a batt standpoint ya get longer life ..
---------------------------
I am building one of these for my suit .
http://www.mycoolingstore.com/cool-shirt-systems-cooler-24qt-110-12volt.html#.VagVU8fWMUE
Chill for 5 min . on Con floor for a hour ect
that one is based on ice .
I wanna use a proper R134a loop right on to a intercooler that will let me pump a glycol loop op a cool shirt like garment..

Ive got some experience with HVAC and refrigerants so this is easy just not cheap.
Hacking a old mini fridge is simple.

Laser chillers are great!
they are ment to cool Diode LASERs .
they are close to 2 grand !

But are plug and play.

-------

If you want to make a REAL chiller then this is something you could make work for a standalone system

http://coolshirt.com makes a CO2 based system. not super long life but .....
With some planning and other means of cooling it might be good for a backup or just
those Really bad hours in the middle of the day

CO2 for the WIN!
just be aware of the dangers of CO2 and compressed gases

----------

If you want to use TECs this might do.

These are all really cool ideas (pardon the pun) and they'd be great if I had the money! I'm just trying to get it as cheap as possible while still keeping a functional suit. I've had loads of ideas of low cost alternatives but since I'm still in the early stages of my suit I can't really test them.
It would be really good to consolidate all these ideas in one clear thread somewhere more permanent but since I'm a rookie maybe someone else could start one? I'll be sure to keep this one updated with my progress of my budget suit in the mean-time. :)

In fact, here is some rudimentary sketches of what I currently plan to do. It will be cheap and cheerful but hopefully functional and do the job! (Sorry they're sideways)
