The sanding and refining process is going slowly but surely. There are a lot of awkward little details that are tough to get to with the tools at my disposal.
Bondo is a bit thick for the smaller areas, so I've been using claw glaze. Its from the last can our school has as it is not produced anymore.
This is a little something I did while I was waiting for primer coats to dry. It's a 5 layer acrylic gun I designed and cut out with a laser cutter.
The slide pulls back and springs back with rubberbands. I may use a spring later on, as that may look better.
The magazine pops out as well. It won't remain clear, it will be painted eventually.
MOLDING TIME!!! Well, for half of it at least. Got some .060 Styrene mold walls up today. The ever faithful hot glue is holding them in place. Started part one of my matrix mold. I'm using GI-1000 tin cure silicone. I'm also using a rapid catalyst that takes the normal 18 hour cure time to a measly 4. On top of that I'm using Thixotropic additive. The thixo makes the silicone flow less which allows it to be brushed on without worrying about it just sliding off whatever you're molding. And to top off this cocktail of silicone related chemicals, I'm using SilcPig which is a silicone dying chemical. I don't need the silicone any particular color, but having each coat a different color helps me see where new new ones need to be brushed on. Ironically, the thixo and the normal GI-1000 catalyst is blue and the rapid catalyst is red, so whatever color silcpig I choose has a purple hue to it. However it's different enough to tell each coat from the last. Here are some pics. Let me know if you have any questions/comments.
The red stuff is the rapid catalyst, the blue stuff next to it is the thixotropic additive, and the blue stuff behind them both is the normal GI-1000 catalyst. The stuff in the white cups in the back is the silicone. It's pure white in its inert state. The catalyst ratio is about 10-1. If you didn't want to use the rapid catalyst, you just use the normal stuff for the entire 10%. So for example, 100 g of silicone needs 10g of catalyst. I split that 10g between the normal and rapid stuff. so 5g rapid, 5g normal.
You can see the different hues of silicone. This is after 3 coats. The first 2 were pretty similar in color, and the yellowish stuff is the 3rd.
