Hey Guys,

Whew boy. That's slick as heck. Can tell you guys really put some serious work into this. Very nice!

you plan on putting motors in to animate the face shield? That would be epic.

Yeh man
we are just finishing the molds at the moment and as soon as we have a few casts done we will look at the face plate and drop down chin.
Actually on a wait list for a voice activated rig devised by TMP, but I also have a collegue who runs a sideline business in robotic components and servos, so he is looking into something for us too.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys.

can you email a projected price for one of the casts?

ALso, will the casts be cut for fitment over heads and possibly the face plate? What circumference head is this helmet designed for.

BTW, helmet looks really damn good.. Good job

Hi Mate :)
no offence meant by the following comment,
but this isnt an Interest Thread or trade thread :) we have sections for things like that.

But to answer your fitment questions.
Its actually a 3 part helmet, if you check the build thread link on the first post you will see how it goes together :)
it fits up to a 26.5" cir head comfortably, but is more suited for a 24"-24.5

Hi Guys,
for those that are interested, here is a picture of the test cast to check the faceplate mold for viabilty.

IronmanhelmetWIP012.jpg

This was just cast with a product called 4PU, similar to any good old slush casting resin, took about 20 minutes, and came out almost excactly as you see it, only had to run an exacto knife around the edges to trim the flash.
The product was a tad old, but it did the trick to test the mold anyway.
At present I have a Gelcoat/FG one almost complete in the mold, and Ill post some shots of that once Its done.

we are just working on the 2 part crown mold and then the earcap/nape mold.

Hey guys,
well a small update......

Still working on the mold for the crown of the helmet, but the weather has been very wet/damp and low temp and not very friendly to mold makers :(

However we did take the opportunity on one or two of the better days to try and lay some gel coat and glass.

But still a bit damp as the photos will show.

As you can see there is a fair bit of Alligatoring (wrinkling) in the gel layer, this is caused by low temp and moisture in the gel layer, or thin gelcoat.

In our case we know the gel coat wasnt thin, as we use a gel comb.

This is a reject, and not worth our time to sand and skim.
So now its a case of waiting for a finer day, and getting the dehumidfier and heater into the workshop.

DT
