Carter Build Reboot!

Well... It's been a while since I've posted on here and am glad to be back In my latest thread I posted a foam Master Chief helmet I build early September (I think?) and said how I moved from SK to AB and since then I've been busy with school and such. I originally "quit" building because it was so rushed and I used to look through the elite threads and would become equally excited as depressed because of of theirs were so much better. So about a week ago I was searching through the threads and came across a build by Apothacary (check it here -> http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/40126-Halo-Reach-Custom-Spartan-w-FOAM-First-Build?highlight=apothacary) and was floored how well he made his and how smooth things looked. I got excited again a really wanted to start building again. Since all my building supplies was packed away I fought my way through a maze of boxes and finally have everything out and ready! I saw in Apothacary's build and a lot of the elite threads how they used thin craft foam to make things look better and build detail so I decided to reboot my old carter build (you can look at it here although it's pretty brutal as well as the pics :/ -> http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/36332-First-Halo-Foam-Build) in order to attend the Calgary EXPO in April. I am really excited because this will be my first big convention and it would be the absolute coolest to me another 405th member(s) there!

Anyways so here it is. I started the rebuilding/fixing of the suit (from it's ugly state) by starting with the forearms (start small...)

So I would use reference pictures to make most parts by drawing them out then tracing them onto the foam then gluing them.

Now these things I love I took safety pins to hold both paper and foam patterns i cut out in order to see if they would work and they worked great!

CLOTHAR - Thanks so much! I am really happy with how they've turned out so far! I'm pretty sure I'll be able to fix everything and actually completely finish this build in time for CCEE since it's two and a half months away but I don't plan on loosing steam anytime soon! I really hope to see you there with your finished ODST armor and some other 405th members as well!

Alright so here is the update for today! I started on the biceps and found that I am really loving the clean new look of the white craft foamies

Here is the right bicep done up and in my opinion, greatly improved.


Here is a nice new addition to the look of the final product Paintball elbow pads! Go paintball! I always wanted somewhat of an under-suit and I was given the idea to use these to improve the look of the arms (the pattern even matches ), and the elbow pads also ended up solving my big problem of the biceps moving around so much, and now they don't! XD

Thanks a lot! Hopefully I can finish the left shoulder tonight but after looking at it this morning, I think I'm gonna redo the shoulder... So cut off the commando shoulder and just remake that piece then go over it and the rest on the bicep with foamies!

This is the order and what I'll be doing each part of the build and what needs to be done:

Bicep/shoulder: As i just said up there + plasti-dip then paint.
Cod: Sadly I will have to remake/redo the cod as it is a bit small... foamies, plasti-dip, paint.
Shins: White foamies, plasti-dip, paint.
Thighs: White foamies, plasti-dip, paint.
Boots: Remake/redo, foamies, plasti-dip, paint. (got new boots that give me an extra 2 inches! Now I'm 6'4!
Handplate: Remake/redo, white foamies, plasti-dip, paint.
Chest: White foamies, add details, add spine, remake ab protector, plasti-dip, paint.
Helmet: Sand off old blue paint, re-detail, repaint, add lights, add padding.
Miscellaneous: Make side attachment for helmet, remake/finish knife, add light throughout?, front attachments on chest, in-chest music speaker to play music?, make magnum.

Well... Yet another late night and another update.. Here we go..

I actually got these little guys done just two days ago but didn't bother posting them since not many people have actually taken a look at this thread so I didn't bother.. and I'm also quite lazy.. Haha I just eyeballed them so I know that they aren't the best looking but they'll do




Shins! Well just one for now done I just finished the right one and it's the main event/reason I'm posting. I still have to touch up a few gaps but for the most part it's good and looks alright

Looks great, man foamies really help improve the look of things. Im going to have to start using those things lol.

Boots!!! So.... I decided to work on the boots before finishing the other shin because I suffer from a serious disease called boredom. It causes me to stop building when there are two big pieces that take a long time to make and I've already completed one but I still have to finish the other one. This is when boredom strikes me at the core of my being and stops me from making the other one. Haha! So yeah I get bored when I spend all day making one part just to have to spend another day to make the other one. So in order to keep things fresh I move around the build to keep things new.

So today I thought I could make both boots because they are small and won't bore me to do both so yeah that's what I did. Now firstly, about two days ago i started working on them but was making them free-hand and did just the ankles and thought it looked funny but wanted to keep it because the boots gave me an extra two inches.. but then my best friend came over to check out my build, some of you may know him as HAggIS the 3rd who made the most know Hunger games map, you can check it here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvC9NqKe1Ag
Anyways.. so he came over and took one look at it and was like "Eww, gross... Fix it...!" So... I decided to once again to use foamies to fix the boots to make everything better. Oh! and I also fixed the thighs but there was only one place that needed fixing so I kept everything else.

The boots that I cut the tops off so they weren't so high but they still kinda were...


And the final result of those... A disappointment...


And the new ones! The first few pictures are while I was at HAggIS's house making them while he gamed but then I came home and finished them (toes and part on the ankle piece.)

At the first picture of the shin and the boot together I literally stopped and stared for about a minute. They look really good.

Well time for an update! Yay! After a decent session of Halo Reach and a pleasant snack I gained the will power to finish the other shin! Woot! Also I went shopping today (not for shoes... ) and picked up a new hopper for my paintball gun and also... gloves! As soon as I got home I took them and the hand-plates and got them put together! Sadly I am going to have to double post due to having too many pictures again.. so sorry... :/

So first of all, the shin, finally done...


Next! The gloves and handplates! So here I just set the handplate on the glove to see what I had to work with then went from there.


Oh and sadly the gloves were fingerless since they are ment for paintball so I am wearing another pair of thin gloves underneath the actual gloves so yeah..


So since I am an avid paintball-er (when in season) I wanted to keep the gloves clean and glue free, so I decided magnets would work great! The gloves had little slits in them and so I slid two magnets inside then glued the other magnets to the hand-plate for easy removal



And finished!!!



Next thing that I did was attach the boot's toes to the laces cover plate thingy...? like so...



Then I applied velcro to the shoes and the toe pieces for easy assembly/dis-assembly.

And the other post... She shins and boots together complete!







Here is almost everyhting I've made/re-did/fixed so far..


It was only quarter to 11 so I decided to make... Chest attachments! Yeah!
