Started working on the shins today. This is only the front portion. Because of my recent surgery and permanent ankle limitations I had to find a spot to split them. With the way I was building them this felt like a natural spot to do it. I'll probably do a hidden Velcro on the seam.
I'm still using pepakura for the patterns but instead of using foam I'm using an expanded pvc board known as sintra. The only difference is you need to heat it with a heat gun to make the bends. All angles and undercuts are made the same as you would with foam.
Picked up a new sheet of sintra today and started working on the back and front torso pieces. Got a few ideas I'm gonna try to incorporate, hopefully I'll have some pics up tomorrow.
It was actually my first jump at airborne school. I wrapped it with an ace bandage and did my last 4 jumps there. Did 3 more when I got to my unit before they terminated my jump status.
I crushed the top of my talus and broke the bottom of my fibula. It wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't miss diagnose me for 6 months. Now it's 18 years and four surgeries later I end up with an ankle fusion. Army medicine at it's best.
When I was in the initial planning I was going to make it functional like the butt pack on my Mollie, but then I decided since I'm building with plastic and probably can't reach it anyway why bother.
Yeah they do look similar, I have found a few low quality pics with back buckles but you can't really see it that well. The ones with the backpack do look like they have a smaller extra loop. Thanks for the reference pics.
