I've been told recently that EVA foam mats are potentially cancer-causing. I did a bit of research and found out that EVA foam mats are banned in countries like Belgium and France. Perhaps this is something to look into?
Hmm... I just realized today that EVA foam mats are no different from those "puzzle mats" kids use. They're readily available where I live, but thanks for the link, Templar! 8D
I just tried out using epoxy putty (after 24 hours of curing) recently. The experiment was a failure, but the results were quite remarkable. With the first few contact shots (with the same gun I used for the hot glue experiment), it only ended up with a few shallow dents. But that is not the...
I made a few contact shots (with an Ares T.A.R. 21 Tavor, 350 fps) at a thick layer of hot glue on a piece of cardboard. It barely did any damage. Just a few shallow bumps. But yeah. It wouldn't look nice outside the armor, but perhaps can be used as reinforcement from the inside.
Unfortunately, all this time, Kydex sheets are only available by BULK from where I live in. Far too expensive for me.
I've had quite an interesting discovery, though. I've tried out coating a piece of cardboard with a thick layer of hot glue. I shot it a few feet away, (with an Ares T.A.R. 21...
Just out of curiosity, wouldn't vacuum forming both the front and the back of the helmet with kydex sheets, then somehow fusing the two pieces together work just as well?
Lexan PC resin comes in "grain" form. I probably will need something to heat it up to "liquify" or make it pasty like fiberglass resin.
To be honest, I don't feel it's safe for me to experiment with something that has not be used before since I'm still a novice. Also, if I make a mistake...
Would lexan resin be any different from lexan sheets in terms of strength? I've never come across anyone using lexan resin for costuming. Was thinking of using that instead of kydex
sheets since they doesn't seem to be available around where I live in.
I meant something without any fiberglass fumes to worry about (during an airsoft game), unless the kydex would be enough to keep the fumes from becoming suspended in the air?
