Hi, i have recently found a local cabinet maker that owns a CNC router and is willing to work with me to cut some rifles/armor pieces.

We have some files almost ready to cut but don't want to cut out of wood (problems with the grain chipping/breaking)

We are looking into sign-foam (10lb density) but it is REALLY pricy

Here is a Video showing what i am trying to do: (NOT MINE)

So, are there any members out there that have know what material works best?

and yes i have already tried contacting Blue Realm studios with no luck

Trycut (http://www.trycut.co.uk/) might be a good thing to look at getting - it's re-usable and doesn't have any of the grain problems you're worried about since it's a solid lump of wax (I'm reliably informed that it's much more dense than, say, candlewax, and has cut properties similar to MDF).

That said, HAVE you considered layered MDF as an alternative? That could work well since, again, it shouldn't feature any knots or grain issues if it's of a decent quality.

MDF is very commonly used in CNC. You may also try pink construction foam. If you paint a layer of white glue over the foam, you can fiberglass it or cover it in casting resin without damaging the foam.

Thats sign foam I used there. I believe its 15lb and yes its expensive. But its cheeper than Renshape. You can use pink foam from homedepot.. but you wont get the best detail out of it. The more dense the material the better the details.
