Hello, I'm not quite sure where I should post this but I've done my research regarding aqua resin already and found nothing. Anyways, I plan on using aqua resin to harden my pep work. Now for my questions;

1. Can I use ANY kind fiberglass cloth with aqua resin;

2. Can I use Bondo car body filler over my coat of aqua resin to smooth it out ( is it even necessary? );

3. How many coats should be applied for preferable durability;

4. What are the best powder to liquid ratios while preparing the mixture;

Thanks

1. Yes I believe you can. I use 3m brand fiberglass. You have a choice between cloth and mat. Dont quote me on this but I believe mat is a lot messy. And cloth is more tightly woven.

2. Yes you can. Bondo is not necessary but it makes it look much nicer.

3. It depends on your preference on how many coats you use before you fiberglass. Most people use atleast 2 coats of resin.

4. Im not very familiar with aqua resin but I think it would be the same as fiberglass resin. Only use 1oz at a time and follow the instuctions on how much hardener to use. Once you run out of resin you should be out of hardener. No more no less. And only resin sections at a time. This will take longer but you wont have very much warping as apposed to resining all at once.

Hope this helps

Personally I'd recommend using more than one coat of resin. I only did one coat on my first piece and I found it still had a slight air of flexibility to it, which is exactly what you don't want with these things. The Bondo is like clay to an extent, it can be formed and shaped, and can take your piece from being an edgy paper model, to a smooth, sleek piece of art. It's a bit of work though, some people don't use it.
If you do intend to Bondo, and you don't harden the piece with enough resin, it can have that flexibility to it which can cause it to crack. No bueno!
100% guaranteed way for awesome excelence:
1. While paper, form the piece to fit you EXACTLY, and place struts, props, and any manner of placeholder into the piece to make sure it stays in that shape.
2. Harden with resin. Preferably 2-3 coats.
3. Bondo and sand, then bondo and sand, then bondo and sand.
4. Bondo and sand.
5. Paint.

Yes you can use Rondo Bondo or anything automotive related. Check out my son's helmet. http://www.405th.com/showthread.php?t=40748 . I used all kinds of media on it. I wanted to experiment with different products and Aqua Resin works great!

I would recommend aqua veil because it's not as tightly woven like regular fiberglass cloth. Also when applying first coats of Aqua Resin to outside do very thin. I divided the helmet into four quarters applied coats almost as if I was dry brushing and it hardens within 15min. So by the time you rotate around the surfaces the first quarter is ready for another coat. An alternative to bondo is Poly Fiber you can add it to mixture to thicken it like bondo and apply with some cheap disposable playing cards.
