hi, this is my first topic i have made and is also my first ever prop i have thought of making.

i started the gun a few weeks ago, i made a 30" cardboard cut out which is about 2.5" at its widest point, the cardboard was from some old broken boxes so it cost me nothing.

i then got some A4 foam board, its hard foam surrounded by card, it makes cutting and carving details much easier. i followed the guide i cut out and eventually stuck all the pieces on, total for foam was £2 and glue cost about 70p.

i then found some old wall plaster which i used to fill in the gaps, it was old plaster and pretty rubbish but i am still getting there.

so at the moment i have the finished skeleton and now i am just plastering the holes and smoothening the surfaces.

i will add some pictures soon, i got a new camera for christmas so i will upload some soon.

hope someone reads this and comments on it.

once this is complete i will post the finished pictures so everyone can view it, i will also be making latex moulds from it to give away to those who ask nicely but only if it works well. please submit comments as i want to know what everyone feels about it.

sorry i'm still getting used to all the functions, if you are interested in this please subscribe as i will be updating all the time.

Hey, welcome to the 405th!

Everything you've mentioned sounds good so far... I love to see props/armor made from scratch. Post some photos as soon as you can. Can't wait to see em!

thanks, i will be posting a picture of the back handle area as this is the part which looks the most presentable, plus the front is still drying, i've just looked at a few other assault rifles in the elite area and my god, are they beautiful. mine seams like a pile of sick compaired to them, thanks anyway, i will get some pics soon

i will just add to this instead of making a new threat, i got an airhogs helix helecopter for christmas, it looks like the halo 3 hornet so i am going to customise it also, bit of paint and foam and i got my self a hornet.

Mate, that sounds like some brilliant work you've got going.

Can't wait to see the final product, and 5 pounds for an AR is amazing!

i know, i have some old paints so its all recycling and would be thrown out anyway, what i will have to get soon is some enamel spray to seal and protect the plaster, thay will cost a bit.

i am not counting the latex and resin in the £5 as that is insane, the £5 just covers the production of the first version as it is purely a test to see if it can be done. i have a friend that has got latex with 80% solid rubber so it is very good quality, he also sells fibreglass resin so i can get it their cheaper than the stores.

if it does work i will be making 1 cast and a few moulds, if anyone is interested let me know, obviously it all depends on it working first time

Please post pictures ASAP as this is a Work in Progress thread and will be closed if there are no pictures. Also it is better to edit your prevois pos then to make a new one if no one has replied, you have doubble posted twice now in this thread.
Anyways just a few pointers on the rules of the site.

Ya, so it sounds like you've got a good solid base to work with, but I cant really commment further until i see some pics man :) Good Luck

hi, because a few members have requested a pic, i have scanned the back of it, its not to scale, well the actual one is, and it is no where near finished but this is where i am at, let me know what you think, i will just go and do the other side and then paint it all matt white so its uniform

thanks for your support, i have finished the other side of the handle and once painted and enamelled i will post the finished pieces.

as for the front of the gun, i have started to paste the plaster on in thicker loads, problem with this is that it takes a long time to set which is why its so cheap, there had to be a compromise. this may take a few weeks to do as i have to layer by layer build up the areas where there are gaps or details, once i have sanded a layer i need to go over it again as some bits chip off.

i'm just installing the camera driver so i will have some pictures later, let you know later

hi, i have another piece to add now, its the ammo count display, it may look out of scale as it is too wide but this is so it fits at the moment on the gun skeleton, when i make the cast i will only fill up to half way so that all the cracks and dents are not shown on the cast and therefore i will have to cut the sides of this piece and it will look more like it, the other piece is drying now and i will hopefully get some more, please remember this is my first one.

on the left is what it looks like and on the right is the areas marked out a bit more so you can see them clearer

new update, i have finally finished the handle part and it is now ready to make a mould of. i have painted it with wall and ceiling paint and dabbed it with an old washing up sponge to give is a rougher grippy feel. i have done this a few times and it has now set hard and so llooks better than it did.

i have also stuck both sides to the same piece of plastic 1 half on each side which can be seen in the picture. i will get some latex soon and make these moulds, once done i will put them away and finish the rest.

please ask if there is anything you wish to know.

update: one last thing, i have cut out the display piece above which had the numbers on and stuck it to a similar piece of plastic and so that too is ready to mould.

update: just to add i will have to go over it again with some paint, there are a few areas which do appear to show bumps and marks, a bit of paint will sort that.

update: i have just found some neodynium magnets, these are 10x more powerful than regular magnets, a 2 cm flat piece can lift 10KG. i only have enough for 1 gun, it will be placed inside the cast of 1 finished piece so that it can be attached to the back of a custom made armor back plate. if anyone is interested please let me know as i will only make 1 magnetic gun.

update: i have another piece to add, it is a picture of the mould i am making for the under grips of the gun, i have modeled this out of foam board and then cut down the centre so that i can make a mould of it. i have also started work on an smg which will also be for under £5, i have made the main shape of it and will continue once i have finished this project.
