Description: Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo is one of the Midwest's fastest-growing comic, pop-culture, and cosplay centric "Comic-Con"'s of the region. Celebrities, artists, voice actors and the like are all invited each year to the McCormick Place Center in Chicago each year to celebrate all things pop culture, and to give their fans what they want; a place to geek out over all their favorite media

Date: February 28th, through March 1st of 2020. (Condensed: 2/28/20 - 3/1/20)

Location: McCormick Place Center South Building, Chicago IL. (Google Maps link here.)

Event Website:
We are currently ironing out details for this convention as of earlier this year. We would like any and all help from members for securing intel as follows:
  • Photographers and/or interested photographers willing to work with Regiment Staff on photoshoots.
  • Dinner plans for either Friday or Saturday. This location proves a little difficult for food since it is surrounded by brewers and fast food chains. So any suggestions are welcome.
  • Members planning to attend who may need room accommodation assistance and/or roommates.
As a member who has frequented this convention successfully since it's early days I will now provide additional details/information to be taken with a grain of salt due to it being opinion, and in no way to be taken as fact or 100% accurate information.

  1. Out of the few years I have gone, for anyone who plans on driving each day or keeping their car in any location, I highly suggest bypassing Lot A and Lot B and going straight for Lot C. Not only has it proven to always have space, it is also always the last lot the con will attempt filling. Saturday it is always suggested to embark on the journey to the con early for Saturday because of how fast these lots fill up. As well as that, the walk to and from Lot C yield wonderful areas for photo shoots, whether they be indoor or outdoor. Inclement weather this year, in particular, must be factored in due to how early the convention will be.
  2. Plan for heavy security routines each day of the conventions. Make sure your weapons are properly tagged before the convention to expedite the trip through the metal detectors and with staff as each day passes by. You will have to pass through them every time you leave the con's main area so make those trips in and out counts.
  3. This convention varies in how strict they are on how present your pass must be while on the show floor. I suggest integrating your lanyard/pass into your suits for ease of access and easy to hide for photos. ( One of our members has a perfect example of this by his magnetics on his suit concealing the lanyard and he is able to remove the plate with ease in checkpoints)
  4. The Hyatt hotel is directly connected to the convention center and makes for a large hub of pre and 0ost con day activities. As well as that, it has a few bars and a restaurant connected to it. It makes for a great space as well to plan out daily activities with friends and other members. Unfortunately, you have to go through security to go from the Lot C approach entrance to the hotel and vice versa each time. Goes back to the saying, Make your trips count. Carrying quick repair kits with a handler or on your suit is suggested for this con in particular.
  5. The green line runs through and to McCormick Place. While this info will not help everyone it is good to note.
Local Hotels: (Descends by Distance)
  • Hyatt Regency McCormick Place (Connected to Con Center)
  • Hilton Garden Inn Chicago
  • Marriott Marquis Chicago (Connected to Con Center)
  • The Wheeler Mansion
  • Chicago South Loop Hotel
Final Thoughts:
As one of the earliest and most likely first con of the year for many of us, I hope to see as many of our members try to make it as possible. This convention holds a personal special place for me as my first encounter with the 405th that made me push myself to make a name and stake within our community. See you all planetside.

Dinner Plans:

To be decided, complications have arisen with the original location. Pardon the dust.

Photoshoot:

The photoshoot is planned to be held at 10:00 am to 11:00/11:30 am on Saturday, February 29th. The shoot will start at 10:15 as to help give members breathing room to arrive on the site, It will be held around the right side of the Skywalk entrance into Hilton Garden. It is a significantly larger location than our first choice with a large podium/neutral background we could easily use.

The easiest access to this location is to travel to the entrance to the Hyatt Hotel in the south building, and head up the set of escalators as shown. You will then cross the skywalk and end up next to a Starbucks. Continue walking forward till you are near escalators again, and then turn right. It is a straight shot afterward and you should see a Wintrust sign and a large number of windows

We do also have other locations planned in case the location is either in use or does not fit the needs of the crew that morning. We will have members setting up in the location before the designated time to make sure everything is set to go for the shoots. Us this video as a reference to where to find the escalator and what the area you are looking for looks like.

Just as a recommendation from someone who has been before, definitely stay on site. This is a massive convention and commuting to and from is extremely difficult.
We're approaching the LZ. It's gonna be hot! Get set to come out swinging. Touchdown! Hit it, Marines!

I'll be hopefully going out there as well. I just need to find some way to get from the train station to the hotel. Went last year and was fun, but have decided, due to various reasons, that I will not be driving there for 2020.

I can agree, trains are superior transportation in Chicago.

I will be adding a list of those who are on the fence or verified for appearing at this event. Keep me within the loop if updates/changes must be made.

So, do we do any sort of group room arrangements or anything? My original room group has decided that they are unable to make it to con this year. Looking for space for 2.

So unfortunately, I'm gonna have to cancel as well. My truck is slowly failing on me, and while it isn't paid for, we are looking to get out from underneath it and getting a new(er) one. so sadly, there is no chance at this point as I am basically going into a financial lockdown of no excess spending for probably all winter long.

Sad to see you guys not be able to make it, but glad you're making the right choices. Hope to see y'all at another one, and that future is brighter.

Updated to reflect changes, it is unfortunate you guys will not be able to make it. Hopefully we can get you out with us sooner rather than later. Otherwise life does always come first and its understandable

NobleofDeath16 I had no idea you made a roll call page for this, (Ive been very Ghosty lately when it comes to the forums, I apologize to all of you! Im in full build mode right now though so I should be more active the next few months.)

Some time in mid January we need to organize the group photo and dinner too. Im not sure if our dear leader Cadet is coming or not, but either way as with Outpost, Noble and I are familiar with the area so we can find something that works.

I'll be bringing some Huel (like Soylent meal replacement but healthier) following what I learned at Outpost for individual meals. I think it's about as perfect fit for cosplay at cons cause it's easy to pack, make, eat, and clean. I can being some extra if other people wanna try it, it's... aquired lol.

That said I'm definitely down for a dinner. I'm happy with anywhere the group likes, whether that's steak or macdons
