Corvus' Builds: Helmets!

[UPDATE] HELMET 5?? - Anubis / HELMET 6 - Another ODST

Hello 405th! It's been a bit since I have last posted into my forum! Since last posting, we had went through the holiday season which for many I know must have gotten busy- of which the same had occurred to me on my end. I had been attempting to finish the Anubis Helmet in November and get it ready as a gift for one of my best friends. Well, as this suggests... I did not get to do this. I had been working alot more recently and if wasn't working I was taking care of a lot more family time. During this period of attempting to print the pieces, something had gone on with my printer which was causing issues with my prints. I tried to diagnose and fix it but everytime I fixed one issue another would pop up- so with less time to work on it, I got behind on schedule. I had nearly fixed my Ender 3 when I was fortunate enough to obtain a K2 Plus as a late Christmas gift. I had been working on it, fixing issues that occurred even there, and suddenly have a properly working and more importantly larger printer. I have done multiple projects with it and proceeded to test out again- why not going back to my classic and try to perform an actual full size ODST helmet. After working out the kinks, I have successfully gotten a full ODST helmet printed out- so happy not needing to solder the pieces together that fits even my large enough head. So taking my measurements, having the proper full file, and ensuring everything is fine- I had continued working on the Anubis helmet. Thankfully I might be able to finish this one to gift it for AIT graduation instead!

Once these prints are completed and I finish with fully finishing the helmets, I am hoping to get proper measurements to start the full build of my Mark V armor to get my Spartan's look in even more hopes to join everyone for events like Halo Fest 2026!

[UPDATE] HELMET 5 --- ANUBIS

And finally, the print is now off the bed. I had screwed up a bit though. I forgot to add proper supporting for the interior just under the "ear-muffs" of the helmet which caused two small openings on equal side, and I forgot the support for a bit on the bottom so just print overhang. But!! I am going to see about printing out little inserts or something if I design them off of CAD and then solder them in to fix the hole part and just focus on cleaning up the bottom part. Trial and error. More work but I am not complaining- just ensures I know what I did wrong when working with a different program and manually designing all my supports recently. Other than that- the helmet is perfect. Which will lead towards.....

PHASE 2!!!!

I am making sure I have all my tools ready, I might need to grab some more sandpaper and filler primer tonight when I run out to ensure I got supplies for incoming snowstorm but I intend on doing all these helmets and going step-by-step with all of them from the RAW prints they are to full 405th worthy helmets!

I am happy to have most of these off and to keep on! At some point during these phases I am gonna have to construct my vacuum form chamber so I can get more detailed visors ready (as EOD is simple and don't need all the extra details in it).

Other than that, more updates to come for the helmets and hopefully can start a new thread for my Mark V soon enough!

Per aspera ad astra

What a sick thread and helmet collection! I’m working on a MkVII armor set right now, but I have a feeling once that’s done I’m going to have a similar menagerie collection of helmets, lol.

Good luck on working on the full MK V armor! It’s a hell of a process, but an awesome one. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the helmets and armor both, keep on grinding!

Hey Arcane! I thank ya! I just looked at the progress for your MkVII and I am loving it so far! I can't wait to see when you have it completed as well! I might need to figure out a better way to display these helmets for time being to get a bit more work space as I don't know how long it would be if I start making armor to go with the sets too in hopes for a full family like get-up. Least for now is my Mark V, I've wanted to do it since I was a kid and having more opportunities now helps it! I was going over ideas and steps on what to do next last night before went for a D&D session and even then I knew seemed hell on paper but not putting me down.

I just gotta review more on bondo first, I haven't used it yet and wanna make sure I have proper coating and work once I start doing these helmets up.

I currently keep my helmet on a printed helmet stand! There are quite a few files out there for stands that you can find for free, and if you’re in the 405th discord I can send you the two that I personally use! I also know that there are some wall mounted helmet holder files out there if you want them off of your workspace.

Thanks for the compliments on my armor! Weather is hindering my progress but I’m trying my best to do what I can.

Bondo can be tricky sometimes, but honestly it really helps. Here’s the video I watched to learn how to use it properly, it goes over both full strength bondo and mixing it with Acetone. Give it a watch, this guy is clear with his explanations, doesn’t go too slow or too fast, and has great guides on prepping props, weathering props, etc. I’ve recommended his channel to a lot of folks getting started on armor.

Let me know if you have any other questions on starting your armor, I’ve learned a TON since I started a few months ago! I’m always happy to chat about the process!
