There's confusion on the medium we're printing on, this is what I've been going on:
Doc Bytes has offered to do a banner for us for free. We can do this, as long as it's simple because he will be cutting everything out himself with a Vinyl cutter. Even with a simple design, this is very time consuming for him.
SO this means:
1) Simple Designs and type faces
2) Vector Compatible
3) No gradients
4) No textures
5) Whatever is picked can be easily read immediately
So the free route, we can still make an awesome banner, it just can't be crazy because well, we like it when Doc makes cool Halo armor and he has limited resources.
If you want crazy texture, design and colors, then we'll have to pay to have this thing made.
A banner this size can run anywhere from $200 to $300 to have it printed directly onto Vinyl.
So pre-press rules of thumb:
1) Colors can be more ranged
2) Textures and gradients can be used
3) The turnaround for Vinyl banners, depending on the shop can be fast
Some print Rules of Thumb:
Be wise with your colors
What Looks good on screen MAY NOT work for print.
You want people to see what this thing is, or have an idea of what it is, or grab someone's attention from 20 feet
Do NOT use the Halo font, you can't read it
DO not use teeny tiny thin fonts for Large Format print ads, the ink can bleed and it also makes everything hard to read.
Photoshop files are huge when it comes to large format, make sure your machine can handle this and that can fit on a CD when flattened.
AI files are smaller, but limited in certain aspects (FX, Complex Textures)
You can make these in Illustrator or Photoshop.
IF we go the Free route it must be AI, or you need to speak with Doc as he will be the one doing and it is to his discretion the amount of work he can do.
If this is done in Photoshop your document at the least must be set to 150 dpi CMYK colors.
We've got a few skilled designers on here, so I'm confident we can make something that's well designed and easy to read.
Adam, I'm not being a dousche, and since most of us on here are considerate, we will not move forward without your input. We need more of it if this project is to go anywhere and it's early in the game, I know, but we don't want to be at this stage in August when we have no time to do anything.
