First Helmet - Mark V[B] (Noble Six)

Hello! I am going to share with you all the (abridged) process of my FIRST helmet! I’ve never done physical stuff, but I do have some experience in 3D/Texturing. I chose the helmet from my favorite protagonist, Noble Six.

I began with printing and gluing everything together. I’m also new to 3D printing, so this was all new to me. Obviously, I got ahead of myself with filler/primer on the jaw. Let’s coat it again, shall we? I’ll also fill the gaps the best I can.

With that done, I think it’s time to throw down a basic black layer and do some edge wear! I decided to go with a simple dry brushing approach. My plan was to go over the first layer and then mask it to paint the other parts- before going over it again with another weathering pass.

Viola! Eh… maybe too much? Definitely too much. Whatever, it’s a learning process right? Let’s give it a grey layer and peel that masking tape off!

Now we’re getting somewhere! Let’s weather this…

I’m going to quote the philosopher-poet George Lucas… “I may have gone too far in some places.” Too heavy of a hand, my wash was too light. A lot of the edge wear is smudgy. Luckily, I can cover some of the unseemly spots on the top with a visor, and hopefully an enamel coat can make it less dim.

And that’s where I am! I have a visor on the way, as I’m in a pretty cramped apartment with no way to get any sort of vacuum forming operation going… I had a blast, and I’m excited to see the final result. I learned a lot, and I’m ready for the next!! Recon, anyone?
