First ODST Build

I've been meaning to do some kind of Halo build for ages, and after seeing so many incredible builds at all the conventions I've been to recently I figured why not finally jump into it? Unfortunately it's pretty cold and wet here right now, so this thread will probably just be planning at the moment. I figure having my thoughts and ideas down before starting will help make it feel more real and official in my mind anyway (never hurts to get some second opinions before I end up doing something stupid too lol). I've never really posted on forums before so I do apologize if my formatting is messy or weird.

The Plan

I'm aiming to do more of a custom ODST build rather than aim for any specific design, so I'll likely just pick and choose parts that I like from various sources. I'll most likely be using MoeSizzlac's H3 ODST files on Thingiverse for most of the armour, and I'll be using the Jeffery/DutchProps helmet files. I think I'll end up going for the Reach thigh plates just for mobility and comfort. I may also do some parts out of foam just to make my life a little easier (probably the biceps and thighs?).

Undersuit/rigging

For the undersuit I'll use a cheap set of black multicam BDU off aliexpress, nothing special.

Like most other builds I'll probably use a cheap plate carrier and a molle belt to rig everything.

Paint

This part I'm not too sure about, but I'd definitely like to use my Reach spartan as reference! I'm a little worried about the blue and white clashing too hard with the multicam, but worst case scenario I could just switch to plain black clothing instead.

"Loadout"

I'm leaning towards Galactic Armory's M90 files, though I may also try Andrew DFT's foam rifle templates just so I can have something light to carry around.

Extras

As far as extras go it'll probably just be the Reach shoulder knife and any extra tactical pouches I find that I think would fit well or look cool. I did also start prototyping the addition of purrfect audio for my helmet because why not? I've never used blender before so I figure learning how to edit models and such is a good skill to have! I definitely want to try and figure out how to make them easily detachable as well.

That should cover the bulk of what I'm hoping to get out of this build. I'm gonna start prepping the models to fit in my K1's build volume and I'll try and get my scaling down over the next while just so I have a solid plan for when the weather warms up. Looking forward to sharing my progress here!

Coming from someone who got the cat ears half out of spite of the haters (lol) and half because I love cats, I'm loving the idea of using them for audio! I hope it works!
Making them functional audio devices would definitely be cool! A little outside of my skill range right now though haha, they're just gonna be decorative. Maybe in the future though!

Looks like a solid base plan! On the BDU, ali might have some grey camo options that might help blend with the blue and white color scheme a bit more! Blender's a great modeling tool to have,
I'd also recommend checking out Autodesk Meshmixer- another free tool that centers mainly around file/mesh editing rather than modeling proper, I've done a ton of model editing in there for my builds and its decently intuitive and pretty fast to use.
