First Pep build and it's an ODST

Update:

Did some work this weekend on a few things. One being for my brother in-law so it's not ODST, and the other being an unintentional challenge from another 405th member.

First, a MJOLNIR helmet I'm making for my brother in-law. For giggle I tried it on and almost ripped it trying to take it off, freaking chinese head trap.

Here is my belt plate.

And the unintentional challenge. A M7 5mm SMG at it's current stage.

Only concern with the progress will be it's survivability when it's all shipped back to the states. Especially if I'm not able to at least resin it all before it ships.

boomshakra - go for it. I know I'm not the first one to experience the problem, but I half expected it since I scaled it for a 9 year old to be able to grow into. Luckily the only pep I've done that has turned out too small was the shoulder. Which after playing some ODST and watching the theater I found was the wrong style anyways.

ViperB77 - Thanks man, not sure if I'll run a thread on it since I'm not really going to get as detailed with it as it deserves. Planning on it being more resilent and I have a feeling that bondo won't hold up well to a 9 year old.

UPDATE:

Finished my M7 SMG. Although this one probably will not survive the trip home it was fun and a pain to put together. Lots of "tack gluing" followed by a light bead to hold pieces together. Once I finish my basic armor I'll build a functional M7 with a locking suppressor, collapsible stock, charging handle, trigger, etc.

I might want to add that any time someone says something is impossible or extremely difficult to do. It's basically a challenge that I must accept.

Sorry for the multiple post here, guess this guys dying out. Well, I won't be working on this bad boy for a month or two. I'm within the sweet spot of heading home and taking leave. Which means I can't really build anything else without knowing it will end up trashed before I leave. But during this time I'm going to research some more techniques and what's local to my area. I'll also be planning some trial and error test on "impact" resistance of different combinations of bondo, rondo, fiberglass, and foam. See you guys in a few.

Your ODST looks great I can only hope mine comes out as great. Any suggestions on how to sand fiberglass on the inside of the helmet? Ive got helmet glassed, shoulders R/L Peped, chest peped. I plan on going on the "ranger" style ODST.

Loose sandpaper or one of the sand paper foam blocks is that I plan on starting with. That's just to get rid of the massive clumps that formed while the rondo cured. If you just used glass on the inside I'd just trim the edges with a dremel rotory disk and smooth that with sandpaper. Once you line the inside with padding it should cover any small pieces of fiberglass sticking up.

I was wondering the same thing myself - I have quite a few clumps inside the pieces I have glassed that need to be 'tamed'. I'm not all that steady-handed with a dremel so sandpaper I can handle :)

I'd find the coarses sand paper I could. Since the fiber or rondo is going to be covered you don't have to worry about ensuring its smoothness. It would also make for a good surface to glue velcor patches to.
