Re: FlyinPhil's fantastic thread of foamy weapon goodness- SAW updates!

Very dope, so good to see this build progressing!
Mind sharing which brand of wood glue you're using?! I'm working on a build that needs sealing in the same way but my glue behaves more like water on the surface of the foam, in that wants to pool and not spread evenly. Or do you take the time to roughen the foam beforehand?

Mine is just Lepage brand carpenters glue. It is labeled as "strong initial tack", but has identical consistency to other wood glues i have used over the years. I only used it on the insulation board, and not on the eva. It was also straight glue, and not watered down at all. Hope this helps!

Shameless double post! Sorry for the delay on this update guys, I've been super busy with getting ready for the halo 5 launch and just finished playing through the campaign a few hours ago.

So, onto my SAW! Added some 2mm layers to the butt of the stock to cover up the steel plates and insulation board... these bits were particularly tricky to size and cut haha.

And here she is pre-paint next to some real steel so you can see the scale. It isn't humongous, but is still super beefy.

....and done the foam work :). I used a dremel with a sanding drum stuck only halfway onto the rubber grommet that holds it to cut the holes in the barrel shroud. I love it when I get my props to this point, it just gives such a good feeling.

And here she is after paint and weathering!

...of course I had to flaunt her a bit at the halo 5 launch...

And a more serious pic. I think I dialed in the scale pretty well on this one! Keep in mind I stand 6'10" in my suit. As always, thanks for looking!

That thing is beyond awesome man. You certainly have a way with foam. I can't wait to see what you do next.

Thanks so much Meatwad! It was a lot of work over the course of a out 3 weeks, but definitely worth it!

Re: FlyinPhil's fantastic thread of foamy weapon goodness- Dual SMG's too!

Man, these look good! You're apparantley very capable of maniuplating the foam to your will. I saw some guy (I'll start remembering usernames eventuallly) do a 'sectional' build of a DMR out of cardboard, which I really liked the final look of (and I realized I like the look of the DMR more than the BR55, in profile) so if I ever get around to doing a rifle, that'll probably be it. I also want to do an M6S SOCOM (not sure how that will work, guess it depends on if there's a sectional template available) and maybe some sort of heavy weapon (I'm thinking either a SPNKr or a Sp'laser, but that's a long way removed from now).

Really looking forward to seeing more, can never get enough of quality content.
Do you happen to have link for that sectional dmr build.

Hey markvo1987 This thread is from 2013, and the last post was in 2016. This behavior, posting in a thread that you did not start, over six months or a year old, is often referred to as "Necro-Posting" and is considered in bad form or poor etiquette. This is because it pushes down and hides current active topics under Old topics that have now irrelevant, incorrect, or outdated information.
