Hey all, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve made a thread. After seeing all the amazing costumes at Planet Comic-Con, I’ve decided to make a new suit, specifically the Mark IV as seen in Forward Unto Dawn. I’m looking to remake a few pieces I’ve already done to fix the seams, but while I figure that out I’m repainting my Nerf AR.

Good lord it’s been a while since I updated, but I’ve been semi busy as of late. So far I have built the shoulder pieces, the biceps, and just finished the forearms. I also ordered a FUD helmet from Rusty Pratt, with a Branfur visor. I unfortunately botched the visor install and had some of the chrome rub off of the visor, so hoping to order a new one. The helmet itself is painted and has LED’s installed, somewhat haphazardly I just admit. This build has challenged me in a lot of ways, even leading me to nearly give up on it. But motivation has returned and I can’t wait to show y’all what I do next!

Finished both shoes and it all seems to go together pretty well.

Did some brainstorming on how to do the space diaper, even now I’m not entirely happy with how it’s strapped but it could be worse.

Got a new Branfur visor to replace my first attempt. It’s installed but it’s not perfect, slid to the left and a good deal crooked. With all the hot glue I used to keep it in place, I’m just not gonna bother trying to fix it.

So, here we are at the final stage of the suit, the chest piece. Going into this I was a bit nervous, it’s the biggest piece in the ensemble and I wasn’t sure how I was gonna strap it. The scaling gods blessed me this time so not much adjustment was needed on pepakura or during assembly.

Here’s the front half

She’s a bit crooked but nothing too egregious, managed to fill the rough patches with foam clay after taking the photo.

Here’s the sides to the lower back

It started off as being one giant piece like my first suit, but I realized with the spine pieces, it’s much too difficult to put on and off with two people, let alone by myself. I split the left side and struggled to find a solution. I tried magnets, Velcro, and elastic to no avail. Then the obvious solution hit, straight up just hot gluing a parachute clip just fat enough so it holds tight. And it worked!

I don’t have any photos for the later process of painting but it’s safe to say my suits practically complete beyond some adjustments and a sticker or two!

Alright it’s been a while since I updated this thread. I wore my suit to the local anime convention and had a lot of fun! 12 straight hours in armor had its low points but I’d still do it again. Here’s a photo I managed to get from the day.

I also entered into the costume contest, my first ever entry in a big con. I won’t lie, I was nervous as all hell. Didn’t win anything but it was definitely worth the experience!

After the con, I took a look at the suit and realized I could add a lot more detailing that would make it look better. The first improvement was the boots.
Previously the top of the boots just sat on top of my shoes, not attached or anything. That’s been rectified now and they are connected securely.

Secondly the biggest piece that could use detailing, the chest piece. The FUD chest has a lot of molded details that are tricky to do with foam. I followed another users thread and used it as a guide. I took some liberties slightly but I’m happy with how it’s turned out

I’m planning on adding LED’s to at least the chest and the thighs, still in the planning phase but I do have the 1/8 polycarb I’ll need.

That’s about it for now, currently the shins are being refitted to hold shape better but that’s for another post.
