On Tuesday I was able to pick up a BoomCo magnum from the microsoft store.

That night I cracked it open. This blaster was particularly annoying to open because of the way it has metal bars threaded and glued to the inside of the slide's clamshell. I had to forcibly separate those.

I worked pretty much all day wednesday (My bike blew a tire en route to work, which was pretty ****ty) so I didn't get any work done then.

Thursday morning I glued the trigger down (it flaps around unless i keep the internals in, and I didn't want anything besides the original spring to keep the slide in place). I also cut out a bit of 2mm EVA foam to insert behind the barrel so the gun doesn't look hollow. I glued that down too but forgot to take a picture. (it was after I painted the gun)

Later on thursday morning I started painting. Then I got on a train for LA to go see Autechre. I didn't get back until friday around 11, and I was exhausted so I went with some friends to get tea before we went to the card game club at my college. After that it was too dark to paint, and I was still too tired so I went to bed super early (Around 630).

This morning (friday) I woke up after sleeping 12 hours, checked social media, and then went outside to finish painting. I masked off the Magnum's barrel cover and painted it. Then, within an hour of the last coat being applied, I gingerly reassembled the blaster. There's some touch up work I missed, but I can fix that with a Q-tip. For me the important part is that the prop is, for all intents and purposes, complete and ready for halo 5 launch. That said, I do want to attach an orange barrel at some point. I'm not sure what the Fashion Valley Microsoft Store's policy will be on props. They may be more lenient, considering the location is the official microsoft-designated 405th meeting place for san diego. If anyone has any info on that, please let me know.

Nice! I plan on doing the same thing eventually with my two magnums I got from BoomCo! Keep up the good work!

I did the same as you and yes, those pins are turds. I little advice on how to take them out with less brute force and preserve the gun is to apply a hot solder iron to the one side of the pin. As the pin heats up, it melts the plastic around it and releases the pin.

Only the one on the back is exposed. the other two are both inside the blaster. I'm not sure why Mattel did this, other than It does reasonably reduce the space required, and it does look a bit smoother from the outside.

Thanks, I have another one coming in the mail too! I ordered it literally the same day I saw this one in the store. I was like "**** it, I might need extra time to work on it just in case" so i bought it. Now I'll just dual wield them :D

You should try the SMG. It's about 1:1 scale after you plug the clip hole and add a different barrel.

These are neat. You did an incredible paint job. Just don't be carrying it around where there are cops. (They make the toys bright colors for a reason.)

It's too bad they don't operate the same as in the game footage and not exactly 1:1 scale.

Since the holder for the two darts in the handle comes off, do you plan on making a working magazine? It looks like there's just a thin support that would need to be removed or shaped so a full size mag can slide inside.

Just got two of these for my birthday. Your's looks really cool and I hope I can do the same to mine.

I recycled some of the guts to make an orange tip. I just dremeled off a part of the dart chamber. It matches my orange armor and it's been drying all night. It should be ready to glue in today.

About the magazine: the supports would definitely have to be dealt with, and you'd have to work around the screws in the handle. Also, the handle and the barrel are two separate pieces of plastic so you'd need to work that out. If you have a dremel and epoxy putty it shouldn't be too hard, but be sure to open one of these babies up and reassemble it a few times to get a feel for how they go together.

The two pieces of plastic connect here. The screws also are in the way of where a mag would typically be, so you'll need to make a thin mag.

This thread convinced me to buy one of these instead of making a scratch built one.

Yeah, BoomCo seems to be doing great. The only blaster I don't like so far is the carbine. So damn small. I hope we get some larger UNSC weapons but scaled right.

Nice work man!!!! Im a newbie to halo costumes and props but have a bit of an engineer's hand. Only thing is that i seen boomco post up their unsc assault rifle, but i've seen no reviews. Its an awesome looking gun and i wish there were someone out there that has a review on it.

The boom co assault rifle is extremely undersized and improperly scaled to itself. You'd be much better off building one yourself or purchasing a kit. With boom co, the good blasters to use are the magnum, peashooter, and Needler. We don't yet know what the spiker is like, but it looks good as well.

Very nice! I too did the same thing, but I kinda took a minor shortcut and just painted the gun still assembled by taping off the entire lower half when I switched colors. I didn't have the tools to take it apart so I improvised.
