Hello everyone,
Below is my feedback and experience building a magnetic holster for the Halo magnum.
This is my first post here, so I’m absolutely open to any constructive comments, I really want to keep learning and help this amazing community grow.
A magnum pistol held to the thigh with magnets.
I used the excellent model by Peerless Props, which includes a functional magazine and the ability to chamber a round (is that how you say it? ).
I really wanted to keep that level of detail, not very useful at conventions, but it makes a huge difference, gives the piece a lot of charm, and honestly, it’s just way cooler for my own personal satisfaction, yeah !
I needed to fit 25 kg neodymium magnets (40×10×5 mm), and I needed two to ensure the pistol stays aligned and doesn’t swivel around. A single magnet wasn’t stable enough.
Here’s an important note: I initially used countersunk magnets rated 20 kg, thinking they’d be strong enough.
However, because these magnets were not exposed (they weren’t “naked”), the magnetic force was greatly reduced. Switching to 25 kg naked magnets made a huge difference the grip was immediate and rock solid.
So I created a slot for the first magnet in this area, and the second one… ended up inside the magazine.
I couldn’t attach any metal plates because the distance between my leg and the plastic armor would reduce the magnetic force too much.
At first, I wanted to glue the magnets directly (ugly, yes, but hidden inside).
Then I imagined a scenario where security at a convention asks me to remove them (why not ?..), so I chose to make them removable instead.
I built two small PLA pockets and welded them inside the thigh armor.
Perfect for sliding the magnet pair in and out. They lock in place, don’t move, and can be removed anytime if needed.
During 7 hours at a convention, it only fell once… during a rushed bathroom break where I was way too distracted
Otherwise, during hugs, poses, interactions, everything held.

First Impressions
At first glance, it doesn’t look very technical:A magnum pistol held to the thigh with magnets.

The challenge, keeping the Mechanism Functional
Keeping those mechanisms intact severely limits the available spots to place magnets.I needed to fit 25 kg neodymium magnets (40×10×5 mm), and I needed two to ensure the pistol stays aligned and doesn’t swivel around. A single magnet wasn’t stable enough.

Thigh Installation
Inside the thigh piece, I also added a pair of magnets.I couldn’t attach any metal plates because the distance between my leg and the plastic armor would reduce the magnetic force too much.

Final Result
I now have a pistol that snaps perfectly onto my thigh and most importantly doesn’t move around at all.During 7 hours at a convention, it only fell once… during a rushed bathroom break where I was way too distracted
Otherwise, during hugs, poses, interactions, everything held.
