Halo master chief armor question

My school has 2 Bamboo Lab X1C’s that I can use. And since I’m a junior I want to go out of high school with a bang next year. I decided I wanted to make the Master Chief armor from Halo Infinite. And the filiment is not a problem (I can afford to pay for it) but I do want it to be tall. I’m 5’8 and I prefer the suit to be around 6 foot (not trying to go for 1:1 accuracy) cus it would look weird as master chief is supposed to be tall and big and here I am as an itty bitty 5’8 junior. I’ve looked at some options like tall boots and stilts but those didn’t fit right to me. So I want your guys opinion. Is it a reasonable goal to get from 5’8 to 6 foot? Or is it just an unrealistic expectation. If so how did you guys or what you yall suggest for me to do? I appreciate it a ton

I went a different route than most from the research I did before building mine. I used Galactic Armory’s legacy boot file that was a full boot instead of just a cover. Then I put old adidas tennis shoes in it, then put some insoles in the shoes that allowed me to raise the height. I have a relatively detailed explanation on my build thread

I love what you’re wanting to do and the reasoning. You’ll look back on this later and smile. Lmk if you have any questions.

Really - truly - Use high-top boots, like combat boots. You want that ankle protection. Tuck the boot up into the shin/calf so the shin/calf is riding on the boot not your skin.

Everyone's talking about the boots being the big source of height, and while that's certainly accurate, I also want to point out one other area that can give you some extra inches - your helmet. Ideally, the inside of your helmet would be lined with foam padding or some other method of securing it to your head so that it remains still as you look around. Depending on the thickness of that foam and/or how much of it you use, that padding can give you an extra inch or two to your overall height, in addition to what you get from your boots.

I'll give you an example from my own suit. I'm 6'4" out of armor. My Mark V helmet uses a thick strip of foam salvaged from old medical face shields, and the boot files that I used have risers 3D modeled in them. With the boots alone, I stand at 6'6 1/2", but with the helmet, I easily reach 6'8".

At the end of the day though, all that really matters with armor is the comfort factor. There's no real point in wearing something to look tall if you can't wear it for a long time without feeling pain (which is what happened with my boots lol). Hope this helps either way, and good luck with the build!

Wow, didn’t know it would be that simple. Sweet, I really appreciate it. Another question if you don’t mind answering, what did you use for the suit underneath the armor? Like the tight black suit that’s exposed around the thighs and waist? Did you use a home made muscle suit or incorporated it entirely into the armor? (Like printing the whole thing and painting the spots that the suit would go in black) I’m a pretty skinny person and was wondering if there was a way to get that thickness. Otherwise I’m working out all summer long to get that thick lmao

Thanks! I did read about adding height to your helmet and torso, but then it’ll look wonky and uncomfortable. There’s a certain point where you can either be tall, or incredibly uncomfortable. I’ll definitely try to incorporate a mix of those to make the suit a bit more comfy so not all of the weight is on the bottom of my foot :)

lol I really hope the process is simple for you! It kicked my ass trying to figure all of it out without any guides or anything to go off of. Also, I forgot to add - I’m 5’10 and with my suit on I’m around 6’1 or more.

Ask any questions any time man. The undersuit currently is just a full bodysuit from Amazon, like a big tight under armor thin onesie that also covers my head. I had to modify it a little: adding a zipper for bathroom breaks, a face cut out, and cutting the finger tips for phone use. And everything is held on by either straps like the legs, or just pressure - like the arms. Whatever thickness you see is just me, for good or bad lol! Only place I have padding is my calf piece and inside top of my torso.

make sure you decide if you’re going to stay skinny or work out before you make it lol. I had to remake my arms and adjust my torso with heat because I work out. But if you stay skinny, you can use EVA or upholstery foam for extra padding. Or, what I used on the calves - 12x12 Sound proof foam panels. With one side being flat and the other having the zig zag cuts, I found it really easy to form into the circular calf pieces and it’s very giving.

I look forward to seeing your build! Don’t hesitate to ask questions!
