Once again the call to dawn the armor of the legendary hero is heard. I shall be cosplaying Caboose at Nebraskon 2009. Heres the Teaser I made for FaceBook

I am rebuilding my whole suit in preparation. I have a lot of great hopes for what ill be doing with this. THIS TIME i will have shoulders and thighs that are scaled to my size...not master chief size....im sadly not that buff

. I will be trying the edge lit LED HUD idea started by thatdecade in his thread. Ill be using a different approch on the dual visor meathod after some experimenting. Ill also be making a accurate under suit later once it cools down. Last year i ran out of time to get everything done. This year I knew I was going to be gone most of the summer so I paid my bro $30 to cut out all the parts except for the torso...AND IT WAS WORTH IT!! to top it of while I was in Japan he and my neighbor jacked my car and went for a few drives (their 15) so as part of his punishment he is having to scour alot of the parts for me! SO due to all this in 4 nights I now have a COD piece, forearm and thigh. I hope to be fiberglassing after I get back from Texas the second week of sept. Fiberglassing outside in october didnt go well

So without further to do....PROGRESS PICTURES!!!

Edit- i got the shoulder about 90% done but i have a killer headache and will finish it tomorrow along with my right shin.

UPDATE!! sorry for the double post but i have a good update. well due to a 3 day headache and being to ADD ( i started a new project) i didnt get as much done the last week as i hoped. But last night i finished my Mark V helmet. This is easily the hardest one ive done, partly to a lacking unfold, but im excited none the less. i also completed the shoulder. today i will hopefully get a shin or 2 done.

Nicely done, my SPARTAN brother! Despite the fact you haven't had much time to put into this lately, it still looks like you're making good progress there. That's some clean, crisp folding there... mmm, crispy :D

Wow, I didn't realize how much progress really was going on with this, I just kinda knew you worked on it every now and then, this is impressive for how much other stuff you've been doing during the day, but I kind of have a feeling we're gonna be sanding bondo off on the day of the convention again, if not by necessity then for old times sake :)

Lol I pray for old times sake. My goal is to have it ready to beta test on Halloween so I have a week and a half to work out kincks.

i thought this one up last year, a way to make sure they'll stay together, lined up and sturdy. Legos. the website bricklink is like lego ebay and has every piece ever made for sale. i love this site.

i plan on putting 3 on each side of a shin for a total of 6 each. ill epoxy the pegs on one side inside the brick and the just snap the 2nd brick on the other side. then line up and epoxy the bricks on the inside of the shin. You can get ones for $0.02-$0.03 each and buy from the same seller so shipping will only be about $2. i may even do some thing similar with my torso. still working on that idea though. i post a little tut when i do this in a few weeks.

Handplate........i did one...........and i thinks thats a fricken lot of folds in a tiny space............but i survived and it doesnt look half bad. But i think i would have rather sculpted them.

That's a fantastic idea for attaching the shin pieces together, dude! Never thought of that myself. Definately a different approach than most, lol.

I agree that if you use epoxy to hold them in place, that should be sufficient to keep them adhered to the inside of the armour. That stuff's pretty darn strong, and it holds fast.

Good thinking, my SPARTAN brother :cool

well as i broadcast from texas i was unable to fully meet my goal of having everything pepped. i still have a torso, and forearm to assemble (all the parts are cut out) and the boots should be able to fiberglass soon. hopefully when im in texas at christmas i can meet up with some of you local guys. but this trip im too busy. should have pix updates next friday.

UPDATE TIME. I have returned from Texas, were I was visiting my new cousin.

th_DSCF2446.jpg

As you can see were setting him straight from birth.

I have recommenced the armor building though now that im back home. I have started on the torso and should be done soon hopefully. i had two sets of the torso printed and both were missing pages so i combined the two. Hence the 2 colors of card stock.

I came across Tandhem's thread talking about rondoglassing and finally took the time to look into it. i have decided to try this method on the suit. As much as i dislike sanding so much....my family hates it more lol. For the torso I found its to hard the try to have it be one piece. so i want to use these Buckles to snap it together at the top and use webstrapping buckles on the bottom i think. Does anyone know where to find these cheaper by chance??

I don't think it's really possible to keep the torso as one piece; it'd simply be too difficult for anyone to get in and out of. Every build I've seen done has shown the torso cut in two parts for ease of wearing.

So, you're definately on the right track with taking that approach to it.

I don't believe I've ever seen anyone use that particular type of buckles for their chest armour before, but I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well. I couldn't say just where to buy them for less, though.

i could be wrong, but i guess i always thought that the armor used buckles like that up there from what ive seen. so that way in emergencies the spartan could quick take their own armor off. is that not where a buckle is??? or is a totally different system? or does no one know?? input please

Yes, generally people use buckles to hold the chest armour together, but from what I've seen, the type of buckles typically used are the plastic clip-in-buckle kind. I think what you posted there are metal pull-through strap buckles. That's what I meant by not having seen anyone use that particular type of buckle before. But again, like I said, I don't see why those wouldn't work, too.

Sorry let me restate that a bit. I tought that the dip/groove was there for a buckle. So I guess more what I'm asking is is that suppost to stay like that? Or what goes there? Sorry if I wasn't clear there. I'm aiming for really accurate this time

Ohhh... that's what you meant. Whoops, lol.

From what I've seen, the in-game model doesn't really show much detail-wise in the recessed area; it's generally very bare-looking. Sometimes people (pooper's recent Mk VI build comes to mind) will add a little extra detail in there, but I've never seen anyone actually install buckles to be clearly visible in that area. Usually, the buckles are attached underneath.
