im moving this whole thing in here and consolidating it, as ive made sufficient progress to do so. so heres a brief recap and outline of my plans.

i'm making the Spartan2 -Mjolinir Armor from Halo 3, or at least my real world interpretation of it. Ive been building this for about two weeks now. took 5 days off last week and started again the other day on the calves. did some more work this evening.

the materials im using is as follows:

120lb card stock
Fiberglass cloth 12oz
Fiberglass Matt
bondo
rondo (bondo and poly mix)
rubber (R:25)
fiberglass resin
sanding resin
lots and lots of reference pictures, as i dont OWN Halo3 nor have I played it.

so here are a few choice pics...

i hope to be done by cactus con, but well see. im building three sets.

i WILL be selling helmets once mine is done, as well as pistols and rifles.

but first no armor is complete with out weapons.

ok, so what do you think?

then boots ive made are gonna end up being too small for the look im going for so ill need to make a second set. im having strenth issues in the gauntlets, but some FGMat will take care of that or some liquid plastic. (read:smooth-on).

the hand plates are giving me major issues, but ill prolly just cast what i have or pour plastic in the masters i have and use that as i need mroe than 1/4" or room to work with.

the upper armor came out better than i expected. i will be replacing a ton of parts with real world equivelents. the slots on the back will be replaced with steel, which will eb fg'd into the pack itself to give it more realistic vents. ive got the wireing plans for a ton of spotlight in the sholders. hopefully 5-10 lux LED's. same with each limb will ahev a 2-3lux LED in it, liek the ref pics i have.

Im gettign a helmet from a buddy of mine in the mail next week to take measurements and paint it up accordign to his specs as im building armor for him and her.

so.... who wants to play????

3 sets? pretty ambitious. Overall it's looking pretty good Jax. You know where you have sanding, etc to do so I won't go there. I'll be waiting and watching to see the final product. Good luck on getting finished by the Con.

well that's in the end of January, so ive got time. the otehr two sets are due in SDCC in july, so even more time there. im not charging them. just having them pay the cost of materials.

besides sanding issues, im open to any suggestions as i move forward.

tks!

some progress....

switched from Bondo to a "secret" material.

:p

anyway. still a ways to go, but here it is.

hey you need to update your armor progress sig now, :rolleyes

i do? why?

EDIT: also noticed even thought i rescaled the cod peice correctly to my waist size, its WAYYY too big. perhaps for someone whos about 10' tall or something...strange.

anyone have the size for a 32" wasit? up-scaled to 34 for comfort?

even though my math is correct, it came out wrong.

need:
width-
height-
Depth-

the default is:
width-39.5
height-36.1
Depth-43.1

i have crackheads file. the default is: i scaled it to:45.7cm width

secret huh? the color and texture remind me ever so much of PC-11. but i could be wrong. how much does each piece weigh and how much do you anticipate the whole costume weighing upon completion? (rough guesstimate f course)

id say the helmet weighs about 2 pounds maybe 3

thighs arent done yet, but id say prolly 3-4 each

calves about 3

the whole thing should weigh more than a standard set of clone armor. possibly a bit more. dependson how much bondo i use in the end , but than again if i cast the parts, which could be expensive, it woudl be a hell of a lot lighter. possibly 10lbs for the whole thing minus the bucket

update pictures.

done with the left calf. need to add the holes and a vent here and there as well as appropriate lighting within. but its done for now and sitting white over a few layers of silver waiting for final color choice and painting.

these pieces are really far from being done, but frankly i want to move onto a new part. ive been dealing with these for two weeks.

:)

Move on Jax and come back to these. Clean em up some more and they'll be fine. Good work on everything so far.

got Spase helmet today.

here it is after a bit of work, and some sanding....more later.

here it is side by side with mine. notice the differances. i think i used RG or FS HD helmet fiels, but i dont recall right now. several KEY differances. But i know the person im painting this for will love it anyway.

great job. its good to see that you are obviously motivated enough to get this far. ugh. which means that i need to start working to get some money.

Looks good there Jay. The flash is giving it small spots. You did good. I like the red racing stripe!
