Hey. I'm new to the forums, and do not understand anything about what is going on. I'm not very talented in the design/molding/painting field, hence being a U.S. Marine. Haha. But anyways, my airsoft team is trying to be a little unique and the idea came up for HALO armor. So I looked around, and the costumes looked stupid and cost way too much.

So I found this site, and was wondering how its all done, the cheapest, most effective way its all done, and the best material to do it out of so that a 6mm pellet will not penetrate the armor.

For weapons, we'll probably just get Tokyo Marui FAMAS'.

Thanks,
Todd

Then put down the ballistics. Unless you have access to some very high-end materials (carbon fibre or similar materials) then you're not going to be wandering around getting shot at. And if you are... well, I hate to be a bummer, but don't expect to walk away without some pain.

Alot of the armor is made from pepakura, which is reinforced with fiberglass. (see the stickies etc for detail) I would think fiberglass would be strong enough to stop airsoft pellets that your shooting at eachother. I don't know this for sure but given the strength of fiberglass I would think it would be strong enough. Also you could modify your guns to look like halo guns if you wanted to go to that depth. Ello Echo! Welcome to the 405th!

Making a suit of armor that is "airsoft proof" is doable but its gonna be a long drawn out process that will burn a hole into your pocket most likely ^^

take a gander around the site and familiarize yourself with the stickied threads under Creations Discussion and the Noob Forum to get a better understanding about the stuff some people use around here.

If need any help or advise theres a Q&A Team at the ready to answer your questions via PM :]

Happy Building!

We took that into consideration. For the Marines, we would have tactical goggles or ballistics glasses. So that doesn't stop us. We are used to being shot. We just do not want armor to be penetrated. Dents don't matter. We were trying to get along the lines of thick plastic like dirt bike armor or rubber.

Yep. Heres the 405th statement on this:

This website and it's administrators do not recommend the use of costume armor for Paintball, Airsoft, or any other such athletic or ballistic activities.

Please exercise good judgement and consult a good psychiatrist/physician before engaging in any strenuous activity in homemade supersoldier costumes that could result in bodily harm and legal prosecution.

In short; play at your own risk, don't say we didn't warn you.

We will not advise on a subject that could result in physical injury. Run a search for "paintball" or "airsoft" and you should see many examples of this.

Being a member of the North Carolina Airsoft Organization (www.ncairsoft.org), it would be alright. I'm not trying to cause any trouble within the 405th Organization, or anything, and if you wish for me to drop it, I will. But when we practice, all we practice with is a BDU and eye protection. For events, yes we use vests and such simply to carry magazines. But like I said, if you do not want anyone to advise on this matter, its fine. I will drop it.

Well, I don't like to rain on parades, but it's a serious legal liability if we allow this discussion to go on here.

While I might trust that you will take the necessary safety precautions, I'm less certain about the countless people who will view the thread and may not be paying as much attention to safety.

It just comes down to the fact that we don't want anyone to get hurt via the information found on the 405th website.

I have no issue if you can carry on discussion privately, but publicly this is how we've always handled this questions, for our own security and for our members safety.
