It is time to plan our first photoshoot for the Great Lakes Battalion! In an effort to spread out events in the battalion's area, we will be doing our first photoshoot near Michigan. Suggestions are welcome for the location of the shoot and anything else.

Early November would be ideal for getting the shoot done before winter if the weather is permitting. A metro park or a similar area that would be best for us in our military style costumes. Parzival has a few good suggestions he found below.

Nov 14-16th is Motor City Comic Con. If a good photoshoot location is around it then we could do that weekend or a location outside of it.

Other options are a winter shoot but we would need an indoor location to suit up.

There's been talk in the Great Lakes discord of doing a trip in in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the spring. There would be great areas there but it would be a multiple day trip for most.

A pre-check of the area is needed depending on our choise so we know where to park, suit up, and figure out how far we need to move from the suit up area to the photo shoot.

Let us all know your thoughts if you would like to go and what options are ideal for you.

Hello,

I have been to every location other then 4,7,8, i went to UT for 5 years and lived in the area for 10.

My main issue with 1&2 is i feel like there's not enough there and we would run out of photos quickly and then have to go else where.

i would love to walk around UT campus in armor but it is a decent size campus so walking from 1 end to the other is about a 20 min walk

The botanical gardens could be really nice.

I will add more later.

We could do the photo shoot around Motor City Comic Con during the 14-16th. Getting everybody from the con to the photo shoot location and back is the issue though.

The 8th and the 22nd of November work best for me but i don't actually know how doable either are this feels like a short notice.

It's either do it next month or wait until spring.
I don't think we would all be interested in Winter shoots

I love a good winter shoot but with that it might be wise to do it at someplace house due to better access of heat, if not spring time would be better so we can scout the locations and give other members more time

So last night the UP was brought up in the discord about its natural beauty and had mentioned that i had done a photoshoot up there with a fellow member Fissoffury and Michigan Master Chief from League of Enchantment. While I would love to do another shoot up there again this would likely be a weekend ordeal with the drive time for all members, myself included. I would also suggest this mid spring time to give us more to plan this out if this is something we also want to do.

Here are a few pictures i have on hand

Yay I can see da forums!

I agree with cacti- a UP or multi-day trip should be a ways off to give us time to plan and prepare. I would be very interested in joining you guys for such a trip.

As for a photoshoot this year, i do like the idea of attaching it to the motor city Comicon because there will be a lot of us in that area already. Dead.Atomic since you’re from the area, do you know of any nearby natural areas that would get some good photos?

There's several Novi city parks in the area and there's some decent greenery on con property to include a couple of water features if interested. There's also some decent back wooded areas at the nearby mall that could work if needed.

There is also a really cool park just off of a lake a couple miles north of the con called Lakeshore park

Four are coming to mind off rip that are close to Novi.

Your bog standard park Maybury State Park. Regular paved trails and whatnot that lead through a forest, picnic places, etc. There's probably some spots we can get off the trails and go into the forest.

Could go to the Mill Race. I think a small part of the river is dried up so there'd be a rocky area. I would have to check in a month or so.
They have some old timey buildings and a bridge too.

Thinking wayyyyy outside the box, maybe 30mins away there's Highland Rec. They have the burnt down Ford family vacation home at the top of a hill. We'd have to walk up hill along a paved road for 15-20mins but you can see what's left of the foundations below. There are ample photo spots along the way too. Get those Fallout-vibes.

There's Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve. Never been here but looks like they have some boulders and a forested area.
I can try to check this one out next week sometime.

There's other regular parks too like Maybury but I'll have to think if there's anything else unique.
