Mold Making with Jello?!

Alginate is very strong actually, back when I was a kid, I was given a mold of my teeth before I got braces, I still have it in my closet, and it's still looking as new as it was 7-8 years ago.

But then being able to buy gelatin packets in the mass for only a few dollars, I'll have to compare which is cheaper in mass.

I've got a bunch of the mini Joyride Studios MC figure (Halo 1 and 2) maybe I'll try chocolate casting them! Not willing to try my McFarlane figure yet hah.

Are you sure its alginate? That's a long time, I would have thought alginate would have shrivelled up and dried out after that long.

I was told it was a algae based plaster that is non toxic and edible (if accidentally swallowed)

Hmm, I know they make alginate mint flavoured for dental use, it's a totally safe, edible product used for life casting a lot, but I always thought it dried up pretty quickly and the mould was usually only good for one pull. I've never used it though, so I could be wrong. I'd love to have a play with some, but I cant find a decent amount locally and I refuse to pay heaps of money for tiny little craft moulding kits they sell at art stores.

Gelitine gets used in the effects industry all the time, 80% of the facial appliances in the lord of the rings were made with it.

Tell you something I thought of, the alginate may be just for one pull/cast, but the actual finished model is another material.

Same thing, but jello brand stuff is just flavored and less firm. Using pure Gelatin packets is even better. Food coloring does help with seeing detail, otherwise, you'd see a clear mold of jello, and you cant see imperfections and such.

Frost is right, "jello" is actually just collagen extracted from cattle bone, cattle hides and pigskins bolled in lime till they disintegrate, then they dry it, put colour and flavour in it and feed it to children.

It also in chocolate bars, medicine and shampoo. awesome. hungry?

I've known thus, but I never cared, just add hot boiling water to orange jello, it smells good
