Hello and welcome to my first post.
I have been playing the Monster Hunter titles since it was ported to the PSP and have loved every title that has been produced since. Except Wilds because it doesn't play nice on my linux machine and it is in fact way to easy.
During lock downs I was able to find the perfect set of files for the Rathalos Armor. Thankfully I did not have to scale anything up or down, I was able to print it off as is.
After 60lbs of filament, several failed prints, 3 generations of 3D printers, and learning extensive troubleshooting steps for clogs, under extrusion, and why you should always be in the kitchen when heating up your nozzles in olive oil. I was able to finally complete the armor set. To my knowledge there is one only other person who has printed off the same set, however, he did not take the time to produce the waistcoat and did not see the sheer brilliance of printing off the boot in TPU. Yes it feels weird, and yes it is oddly comfortable.
The waistcoat is 18 separate parts glued and "knitted" together to make them all in one movable piece. To keep the weight off my hips I had to rig up a set of suspenders that can be adjusted.
For the armor the base paint is Textured Black Rust-oleum, and the Blue is Bear-Dynasty Blue Flame sponged over the scales, the accent paints were Shining Silver and Hardend Leather Speed Paint by Army Painter. The fabrics and fur were sourced from a Johan's before they closed shopped and the belt was a perfect find from a Savers thrift store.
The sword used the iron spray paint by bear with the accents paint, again, the Hardend Leather Speed Paint.
The scout fly latern was supposed to be able to light up when you move though I believe I killed the board to control it. So I rigged it up with an LED controller that uses a little IR remote.
As my first armorset I learned a lot about printing, painting, and how to make on the fly changes to how to wear it.
