Figured now that I have my first successful print of the build, I’d create a build thread!

First thing I printed was the hand-plate armor since it’s likely the smallest and quickest. Have another one going now for the other hand and will be starting the top right front of the helmet tomorrow.

The actual gloves I’ll be using are all black. I’ve been using them for ATVs in the mud for years and realized they’ll make a perfect spartan glove!

UPDATE 9/28/19
Build is complete! Added pics to OP.

Looking good!
3D printing is both super cool, and terrifying. I love the idea of clicking a button, and having a halo suit, but the idea of of 2 day print failing at the very end is stressful haha.

My first painted piece. Starting to look like Master Chief already!

So in the game only those circles are black, but in most costumes the deeper section on the top is black as well. Not sure what I’m gonna do

Finally got my 2nd print done. Part 1 of 8 for the helmet, The front upper left piece. Unfortunately due to a glitch in Cura when rotating, it printed 38.2mm too short so now I have to reprint that section. The detail looks amazing!

What printer are you using? I'm jealous you can get such large pieces!! Mine has a small build plate so I'm always envious when I get to see these larger pieces! I also find it interesting you're skipping the evil devil portion of the process (sanding) and gong straight to painting. I'm interested in seeing the final result since it could look VERY cool.

Mine is actually just average size I believe. Creality Ender 3 Pro with 200x200x250mm bed. All the pieces are pre sliced by more experienced people.

Yes regular PLA is a pain to get the lines fully out, but to be honest I kinda like the detail in it, and from anything other than a close examination you can't even see the layer lines at 0.2mm. I do sand off the rough edges and corners and the backs where fibers start spitting out. and there's some parts that don't print 100% perfect so I exacto knife them off.

Definitely not experienced at all but I'm learning as I go!

Very cool! My father has a 3d printer that doesn't get used too much, and has been encouraging me to make some use of it. I've been wearing suits since around 2009, and the idea of just printing a suit has been in the back of my mind since 3d printers came out. After seeing this.... i may just have to break down and either get my own 3d printer or put my fathers to good use. I'd have to wait until the holidays when I'm visiting the family though ;)

Ok I gotta ask - how DID you do this? I've modded a XBOne Kinect to work with my PC (for unrelated VR full body motion stuff). I'd love to see a tutorial on this! :)
ReConstruct Me and Scanect are good programs. Scanect has an incredible UI but is very limited in “non commercial mode”. ReConstruct me is kinda just thrown together. Apparently Microsoft’s 3D scan app works well too but it’s not detecting my X360 Kinect.

Btw you want Kinect SDK 2.0 since you have the newer one.

Just chillin, waiting for the rest of my prints to finish
Progress looks great so far! Love the detail on top of the visor bill you captured! Have you checked out Justin Branfuhr visors? He sells them on etsy. They are vacuum formed and have all the game detail. And the mirror finish is perfect for visibility. Have no problems seeing through mine. Your helmet looks great and I wouldn't go short on the visor with a motorcycle one. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, I’m very impressed with this $260 3D printer that many said wouldn’t keep up with these long print times.

I actually messaged him last night on Etsy to see if his visors would fit the model I’m using (RainyFire). If not, I’ll do the dual layer visor like Moe suggested.

Got the front bottom left “chin piece” done this morning. Other side is 20hrs into its 2 day print as well.
