Hello everybody, the first suit of armor I made was only in cardboard. Only for fun, but I liked it so much and found this site, so I continued :D

Heres a couple of pictures on myself and my second helmet (the first one was too small ;) )

EDIT: Look at page 2! Theres a video and new photos!

Oh and I forgot, this is my First Fiberglass project. And as we speak I have resined it, so it is drying at this moment I write this. I will post more as I have made alot of High intestense Blue LEDS for it :D

Thanks everybody :)

I been resined the helmet as I said before, in the garage with both of the doors open (they are pretty big doors). I used a respirator, glasses and every safety thing I had. I could feel a little smell through the respirator, but when I was done I let it be for half an hour and then I shut the doors. We have 3 doors from the garage to my living room and stairs, and I can feel some smell of it. Is the smell dangerous to breath in? Or is it only when you stand next to it. It is not smelling alot , but I can sense it.

Hmmm... what kind of respirator did you use?

The helmet is looking great by the way! Waiting to see more. :)

The respirator is fine I think, but if you wonder is a class A1 (if that tells you anything). It stands its used for organic fumes, but I am more worried about the smell in my house. But that has stopped for now, and it doesnt seem that it did anything :) I update with some more as fast as I can

Fiberglass Resin is deffinately not organic, you may want to find one specific to fiberglassing/painting.

All the advice I could find on this forum has told me use a NIOSH approved organic vapor respirator.
the organic vapor ones have the charcoal filters, which are what helps to filter the resin fumes.

Ok, I may have been a bit short on information. I was meaning organic fumes from solvent, also I will post a picture of my respirator on this thread in a couple of minuts, as I think it contains charcole.

Ok, I will call the manufacturer for safety aswell, heres a picture. (The person who sold it to me said it was no problem)

EDIT:The picture wasnt working, I fixed it.

Helmet is a bit too big IMO :D but it's too late now.... :D but it'll be fine to work with.

As for the respirator, make sure not to get your head to close to the resins.

Ok, thanks for all the replies about the respirator, but it has been sorted out. And its properly working, after have been talking to the store, and several persons who know about this. Heres and update!

cool practice run.

When you get that done right without anything going wrong, then youll be more confidant doing the proper version.

glad you got the respirator thing straightened out, and really nice helmet BTW. Just as a n00b question with the process of making armor, is it customary to start with the helmet?

I realize it doesn't matter to much in real life, but the Helmet is the headpiece of the whole shebang! :p

Customary? Yes I think so ;) Because most people wanna get one of the coolest parts done first and have as an insperation to continue I think, but thats only my thoughts.

Stay tuned people, I will update soon again when I put in my LEDS that have been set together. And thanks for all the Support!

To se the newest photo of the helmet, just scroll down to the latest reply that I made.
