My Windows Xp Won't Let Me Change The Desktop!

I mean, it will only let me change a background color, I really wanna have a picture for my desktop instead of a boring color!
I try setting an image as desktop, but it doesn't change it just stays the color that I chose. when I try to click any of the images from the list, it just acts like its something that does nothing when you click it.
Here is a picture that I made that better describes the problem:

Oh, and I already tried finding an image online and right clicking selecting set as background/desktop whatever.

Can you just try this? Go to google, and search google images for anything. Click on the image, then on the small image in the top left hand corner of the screen. Once you have just the picture on the white screen, right click on the picture and click set as background. Tell me if it shows up as your background.

I have no clue how many times to say this, but I already did that 5 frickin times. And I just did it again. And did it work? No it did not.

Do you have the admin rights on your session? Maybe it's just this.

Or have you installed a WinXP theme? If it's not carefully uninstalled, it can cause such problems.

Relax. First of all you asked for our help, so don't go and get yourself irate over a background. And second, you never stated that you did that.

@Last Spartan-This is basically my computer, so yes I am admin, this computer was used before, but I don't know what a WinXP theme is, but the previous owner may have done it.
@Anonymous- I did state that I tried doing so under the image. Sorry but I've kinda been stuck with the same BG for a while, and its kinda irritating right now.

Go in Add/Remove and check if you have sometime called like WinXP or [name] Xp Theme.

I was using a Warcraft 3 theme before, and I had almost the same problem.

Registry scan, many problems can be fixed with a simple scan. Otherwise, manually do it, go to the location of the image, right click > Set as desktop.

Question: Are the pictures jpeg? because if they're not *.bmp, windows xp will not display them

(actually, it will, but you'll have to activate active desktop, with is used for displaying a web page as background)

RadioactiV777,

It looks to me like you've got a skin called "Royale Noir".

It's a skin that Microsoft worked on during XP's development but never finished. I.e., it's buggy. People dug it up though, so it's been circulated around the net for free. It seems whoever had your computer before, thought it looked neat so they downloaded and applied it.

I would recommend switching your 'theme' options back to the defaults and see how that effects the display issues you've been having.
