Ok, so with the advent of this whole new 'deployment' thing just around the corner I decided I wanted to have a set of armor that would be allowable in an official capacity, but I want to make sure that the helmet is going to be the right size. I looked at some of the scaling tutorials and they didn't really help me any so I'm just winging it here.

My wife took my measurements at D8.5" x W7", or D215.9mm x W177.8mm. I didn't get height because I know utilizing Pep Designer it will ratio them all out. What I have it at now is H273mm x W244mm x D314mm for the Mk V Variant helmet from Reach. Does this seem about the right size?

Re: Sizing/Scaling help needed

Well usually people measure height and enter that into Pepakura, then the rest of the dimensions will automatically change.

Read THIS and scroll down a bit. The bottom half of the first post and all of the second will be particularly helpful for you.

Re: Sizing/Scaling help needed

Thanks for that link, for some reason that never popped up in the searches. How much would you say is a good buffer to add for the distance between your head and the outside of the helmet?

Re: Sizing/Scaling help needed

If you mean for padding and such, I've read that it's dependent on the helmet you're going to be making. I'd say add an extra 2-3cm. I've seen people add up to 5 but personally that seems kinda big to me.

2-5 is the range, then.

Also, I'm only asking out of curiosity, but which helmet will you be making?

Re: Sizing/Scaling help needed

Ok, thanks. I want to get working on it tonight because Sundays seem to be the only time I can pep, now that I'm working full time again.

I'm doing Noble 6, my go to guy =P, so Mk V Variant.

That brings me to another question: What is the accepted Noble 6 armor ensemble?

The game was meant to let the player determine what (s)he thot 6 looked like, so there's not really a set in stone armor set l, but at the same time Halo Wiki claims there is a particular set. Variant with UA, FJ/PARA right shoulder, Commando left shoulder, Tactical/LRP chest, UA/Buckler wrist, says nothing about Utility, Default or Gold visor, and FJ/PARA knee guards. The whole thing just looks too awkward to be Noble 6, to me.

Re: Sizing/Scaling help needed

Its now roughly 10mm smaller than before coming in at H265mm x W237mm x D304mm. It seems about right, maybe a little snug.

I hate that Noble 6 is just the default armor. There are plenty of other pieces that would've looked great on him/her, like the FJ/PARA knees, the TACPAD, any of the utility pieces, and I love the ODST shoulders. But I guess that's how 6 made entire rebellions disappear, he didn't have all the nice extras, just the basic package =/

Thanks for the help, Raquisite!

Re: Sizing/Scaling help needed

No problem!

And you could always customize it for sure. Or are you going exclusively for Noble 6?
'Vanity' is a great tool for making Halo Reach characters and playing around with different armor pieces, colours, etc.

Re: Sizing/Scaling help needed

I wanted to do Noble 6 specifically, but after realizing that he's just a basic ***** in the armor department, I'll probably customize. Yeah he's the only other hyper-lethal, but I gotta give him some armor upgrades or else I'll lose my mind knowing I've got the base model of the Spartan III series, not even power windows or locks! =P

Re: Sizing/Scaling help needed

Yo Shiney! I'm a little late, but I thought I'd chime in with how I've measured all of my helmets (the ones that fit right anyway, lol). I saw a youtube video that gave me the tip. Measure your head's height in a curve from the center/top of your head to your chin. If you enter that measurement as the helmet height in Pepakura, it should give you just the right amount of room for padding and to cover your chin.

Also I would recommend Vanity as well. Much easier than unlocking all the armor. :) Here's a link to the download page.

Thanks for the tip, Duke! Ha, just the tip.. =D

Anyways, lol, is there a given accepted color for Noble 6? I know that when you first start Reach the very first time it asks if male or female, and when I made my wife's character female it made her pink. Any ideas?

I want to do the in-game white. It's very weathered and battled damaged and scratched to bits, but it holds its color well aside from the caked on dirt.

I apologize for the double post ahead of time, but is no one really going to chime in? I mean, if you had said pink I could've gone with that. I just made 4 new accounts and all came up with different colors, though all were solids(eg, red, rust, orange, pink, no mix and matches( eg, grey and blue armor). They did correspond mostly with the genders chosen tho, I found that ibteresting..

I shall ask again, What color is Noble 6's armor supposed to be?

If you're going for the stock Mk V model used by Bungie in marketing, then steel/grey, although other promotional artwork also shows other colours and armour customisation. However, since Noble Six is meant to be a self-insert for the fan to customise as they wish, you could pick literally any armour and colour combination you'd like. There's really no one true answer to the question, so feel free to colour up as you please.

And yes, that does mean 'no more posts about indecision', if you'd please.

I understand that N6 was a basic stand-in for whatever the player wanted, but at the same time N6 has been referred to in canon as male and he is depicted with a very particular set of armor. The one aspect I have not been able to pin down is his canon color scheme because either a) the game doesn't depict that when you play, or b) everyone mostly guesses and/or has information that conflicts with canon in the statement with the color.

I'm not trying to be all 'shucks guys, what color should I do? You decide!' I think that's BS. I'm trying to be accurate per canon and it's not easy when the character doesn't have much information in his history.

That's the point - there is no canon to Noble Six. No gender, no set armour composition or colour. Everything about Noble Six, save a few scraps in his/her service record to flesh the character out somewhat, was designed so that the players could insert themselves into the character. Even the trailers and media are gender-neutral regarding the character and present him/her in the default Mk V for marketing purposes only - so, again, I'll try to make it clear:

The choice of colour and armour composition is up to you. The only 'canon' to Noble Six is in marketing materials, which present the character in steel-grey, default Mk V - otherwise, you are truly free to compose the character as you please.

Ugh. Mk. V /UA with default armour and UGPS along with the dark grey 'steel' colour will always be instantly recognized as Noble Six. Base it off that.

Far as I'm aware, promotional renders and artwork always depicted Six as completely default, with no attachments or upgrades. That said, there's promotional material out there depicting Six with UA components for the Mk V helm, so there's certainly that if Sides wants to follow the promotional material.

Ah, cheers for that. I seem to remember seeing it on the McFarlane series one figure along with the UA attachament. So I wrongly figured they were present on other renders, too.

Here we go... :sigh:

In Halo: First Blood, page 86, Jun is attempting to recruit GySgt Buck for the Spartan IV program. While talking, they reminisce about N6 and Jun remarks "Noble 6 was a good man." And again in the drawing in Halseys journal, he is drawn as a man. Stephen Loftus, who served as a consultant on the production of Halo: The Essential Visual Guide, has stated that both Bungie and 343 Industries regard Noble Six as canonically male. Care was taken to refer to S-B312 using masculine pronouns in The Essential Visual Guide.

He IS male, despite Bungie themselves saying he's a freaking hermaphrodite[/joking].

As for the U/GPS, after falling from Long Night of Solace, he looks at his wrist(even if not equipped with anything) as if he already has the U/GPS attached. I take this as meaning he was intended to have it because there's no other reason for him to look there. I do not consider the toys part of canon, though.

The Recon helmet download is considered canon and it's entirely possible that he received it while at ONI: SWORD BASE during his multiple trips there, but it never is stated specifically so we'll never know.

He has quite often been depicted with FJ/PARA knees.

As for the rest of his armor, who knows. According to Halopedia and HaloWiki there is a particular set of armor he is intended to have, but they don't have a source from what I recall.

The one item that was never specifically stated, if I recall correctly, was his color scheme. But as you have said, Steel/Grey seems to be internationally recognized as the Noble 6 standard.

I'm not being wishy-washy, nor do I think that this an outlandish question, as it isn't covered in any canon material nor in the game itself. I feel a bit insulted by the attitudes I'm picking up. I've searched through Google back to at least page 5 as to what it is and there was nothing conclusive.

Thanks for the replies, despite the hostility..

What attitudes/hostility specifically? I didn't see any of that from Chernobyl's or my replies. If it's regarding the 'ugh' I wrote during my first response, (the only thing I can think of) then that is due to the fact this is a complicated matter when it really shouldn't be. It wasn't directed at anyone.

At no point was anyone being hostile. Please clarify.
